Hey everybody,

I just got a new laptop and was wondering how well, if at all, it could run ArmA 2 (before I go through installing it and everything).

Here are the Specs:
  • Inspiron 15 Notebook
  • 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processor @2.30 GHz with turbo boost up to 2.90 GHz
  • 4gb DDR3
  • Intel HD Graphics/HD Graphics 3000 with 1.6GB Video Memory
  • Windows 7 64bit

I'm thinking the biggest problem would be graphics but If any of you techies could let me know I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Nightrain

Armstrong-"Hey Carillo, do you see that?"
Carillo-"See what?"
Armstrong-"Something's burning over there, see the smoke?"
Carillo-"That's not smoke it's dust!"
Armstrong-"Dust? i don't get it."

I think it should be able to run it, but its a laptop and videocards on a laptop just perform less than on a normal PC. It gets hotter, it has shared memory (the 1.6GB video memory is shared from the 4gb DDR3).
Probably you will be able to start the game, play it but on very low settings and with low frames.

Works ........yes.
Playable, without reading much but knowing its a laptop, Intel Graphics, shared mem ......... I say no.
Worth a try? Always :-)

(topic moved to A2 general, we did not have an A2 laptop topic yet, only for OA/CO).

*ROFL* Thanks viper. I think I'll give it a shot anyways, no harm in doing that.

I play exclusively on a laptop. Yours has basically the same specs except mine has a NVIDIA GeForce GT230M. I think ArmA really really likes the i5. Let me know how it works out. Two of my friends also use i5 laptops with different GPUs and all work pretty good.

I am very macho.

Hmm I've been wondering the same thing with a laptop I'm looking at to play arma 2 on.

If anyone can take a look at it that would be great:
2nd generation Intel Core™ i7-2620M processor 2.70 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.40 GHz
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Intel® HM67
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics with Optimus
15.6 inch display (1920x1080)

I don't understand that much stuff about specs so heres the link:

@Rick- would I have room for a good amount of mods and other apps on the laptop I might get?

@madiba127- I'll look into a fan. I do have a budget so I'll try to find one that isn't too expensive.

# DeltaHunter24 : @Rick- would I have room for a good amount of mods and other apps on the laptop I might get?

This is what my target line looks like, sometimes i have ACRE too: mod=@ACE;@ACEX;@ACEX_PLA;@ACEX_RU;@ACEX_USNavy;@CBA;@Fallujah;@Fighterjets;@GL4;@Islands;@Movement;@Panthera;@STHud;@ToraBora;@JSRS;@WarFX;@BWMod -nosplash -noworld -skipintro
As you can see mods work fine :-D
As for a fan, they come cheap. 20-30$ gets one that works just fine.

@DeltaHunter24:
Don't be so quick on your purchase just yet...do some comparisons of other vendors.
Though it is really easy to bad-mouth Dell I won't and will limit this to just a recommendation.
I convinced my brother to upgrade his old laptop with this one (w/o BRD, w/GTX460M-1GB) and it rang up only $150+- from what you'd drop on that XPS15, while able to run circles around it.

I think the OP will be able to run ArmA 2, but I've tried ArmA 2 vanilla on an old HP Pavilion, and it definitely didn't run well at all. It was more like, as the other poster said, a slideshow of beatiful pictures.

I have found that using these ingame settings, the graphics and FPS is dramatically improved. I use a Toshiba Satellite L550 laptop. I get about 34 FPS when playing benchmark 1.This might be helpful to you Nightrain and DeltaHunter24.

Visibility - 1233
Interface resollution - 1600x900x32
3D resollution - 1824x1024
Postprocess effects - Disabled
Interface size - Normal
Aspect ratio - 5:4 TFT screen
Vsync - Disabled
Antialiasing - Disabled
Shadow detail - Disabled
HDR quality - normal

All other settings are set at very high. I havn't played online so don't know how well it will go there, but there you go.
