Mod Info:
A small group of modders were working on porting the USS Nimitz into ArmA with the permission from the original creator, DaSquade and later modified by Hawks. However, before they could finish, they were deployed overseas, and conversion on the carrier had stopped. As far as I know a static version was working with refuelling/re-arming capabilities. In my case, what I need is a floating static object. I don't need it to repair or refuel, move, or attack, I just need a carrier that floats. Anyone know what I'm going to need to do with the config files to achieve this?

I tried just changing the version needed and making the config as "ArmA" as possible, but the game CTDs and gives me an error saying something about the model not being version 7 or something like that. Any ideas?

It does, I believe. Unfortunately, I have been informed that unless we track down Hawks and get the original models, we can't use it in ArmA. We need those original files to update it to a version ArmA will recognize...

Fortunately we do have the Kuznetov in the meantime: http://www.ofp-arma.cznhl.com/downloads/addons_boats.php

This does load into ArmA but requires config editing to get it to float on water. If anyone wants to assist me in this let me know...haven't a clue where to start.

Its a real shame all those addons don't work for 1.08 (or 1.09 BETA for that matter), been looking everywhere for an aircraft carrier to use in our campaign

It's been awhile so I thought I'd pop in and give you guys an update. Me and Franze have been jointly working on this in connection with his F/A-18 Hornet add-on. I managed to get the original file from the porter under the condition that it wasn't released in it's current state. We've managed to get to the point where the flight deck has no geometry errors and you can land on it with no issues. The things we haven't worked out are: Getting the catapult/arrestor wire system to work properly (Only the F-18 is able to land on it due to it's built-in arrestor hook system when landing), getting the Nimitz to properly float in water without forcing it to spawn in the air, putting AAA guns on it, and getting it to be movable.

Frankly, I don't think the last two issues will ever be addressed. It's hard enough to get a working platform in. The first issue we may eventually fix, but right now it only makes sense realistically to use F/A-18s anyways on the Nimitz.

Now this is an excellent update. You guys sure did amazing job :yes
I watched both videos and I am very impressed.
I hope you can figure out how to make the ramp work, even with a just stationary model thats an awesome feature.

Regarding the AA you want to add, cant you use RavenDK's multiple turret example model? Or has the issue to do with soemthing totally different?

I really just haven't tried to port it. What I was trying to say was it isn't going to work without revising the scripts. What do you mean by the ramp, you mean the blast shields when taking off? Or the elevators (Those never worked in the first place, mind you)

Franze has passed me off another version of the Nimitz and it looks perfect. There are no longer any gaps in the carrier and it properly spawns on water now. Radar works, tower works. We'll talk about a public release over the next few days.

Franze says he can get it working, though it's beyond me how we're going to trigger it since the catapult scripts aren't working. We'll keep you posted.

Just like to say stunning work Tykell, I've been keeping an eye on this one and look forward to messing about with it when it's released.


Sort of on the same subject, I've been messing with the Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier - Opf addon done by Gnat, UNN, Ivan (originally done by) & eddyD.

(I'll point out from the start the below Addon, is being transferred for personal use only, if however someone wants to do a full Arma conversion, I'll be happy to supply what little information I have) Totally missed your post when you mention this carrier, I'm still interested in getting this one working as a static landing platform


Almost all the textures transferred over in one go, but I'm having the same problem you did with regards to the ship not floating: attached a few screens, notice the ships on the runway lol :)

Again the F18 land perfectly on it, as can other planes but they can't stop in time and fall off the end :)

Good luck with that, Southy. At least with the Nimitz when I got it to spawn in the air in stayed still. The Kuznetsov for some reason races all over the place when I try doing the same thing.

Got the ship now static above the waterline now, so thats a start, I'll see what I can do with the rest of it over time.

I'll keep at it as the arrester scripts and so one seem to be working.

Although its just for personal use........that one too looks very nice :)

If anyone of you gets this fully working (and has all needed permissions) you could also get in touch with Gnat and see if he can/wants (to) use it in his AAN - ArmA Navy project.
