razor edge is gone.
I havent been on the VBS forums for a long time (I do not have access and I havent bothered to ask for it with my key yet) but I think VBS MP is pretty much non-existant.

I guess if you have a lot of extra money lying around. In my opinion it's not worth it unless you really really want those extra features.

for me as a former member of razors edge for someone to ask if we are still around. it makes me think of the vbs1 missions the team did. and some of the vbs2 missions we did.

I've got a copy of VBS2 Lite (the version that everyone can get). Unfortunately when I run it, after I install it on my my Windows 7 x64 computer it doesn't show images or text, just gray boxes where the text or images should be. I don't know if this is a problem with Windows 7 (as if it's expecting Windows XP), or the fact that my computer and OS is x64 instead of x86. But it seems something about my OS isn't compatible with VBS2 Lite. If anybody knows about how to fix this, please let me know.

I was running VBS2 (full version) just fine on Win7, both 32 and 64bit. Have you tried updating your DirectX Version and drivers for your graphics card?

As far as I know, they are all up to date.
I have DirectX 11 on my computer.

You maybe do. But DirectX 9.0 which VBS2 needs is not (fully) included in DirectX 11. Why this is so only Microsoft knows.

A) Confirm that your graphics card is Shaders 2.0 compliant. Most graphics card made during or after 2005 are Shaders 2.0 compliant.

B) Ensure that you have installed DirectX 9.0c on the computer. An option to install DirectX 9.0c is available at the end of the VBS2 installation. Otherwise, DirectX 9.0c installation files reside on the VBS2 DVD in the 'DirectX' folder. Double click 'DXSETUP.exe' in the 'DirectX' folder on the DVD to install DirectX 9.0c.

Latest DirectX 9 you can grab from here.

Ok, so I downloaded the latest DX9 installer from your MS link. It only took about one second to install (as if it didn't even install anything, maybe DX9 was already on my computer). Then I started VBS2, and it gave me the same problem as before. It doesn't show any text. Instead, each line of text is composed of a series of gray boxes, one for each letter, each in the general shape the letter is supposed to be in, but the letters don't show. I'd screencap it, but DX drawn images don't properly capture with the normal PrintScreen keypress for screencaptures. Instead I've simulated the effect using MS Paint. Check the below picture.

Is this a known problem with this game? What are the fixes (if any)?

Sorry for the late reply. If it's not DirectX and your drivers are up2date I'm running out of ideas.

VBS2 and Lite (JCOVE) were both running fine on Windows 7 x64 back when I used them, so it's definitely not a problem with the Software. Are you sure your graphics card can handle VBS2/JCOVE? It should if you use an actual computer but for example Laptops with integrated graphics often lack the required power to run 3D applications.

You could try to contact VBS2 customer support, but I guess these guys are too busy with their commercial customers so don't expect an answer at all.

Another resource you could use is the VBS2 knowledge base.

Well this isn't a 3d graphic it was displaying. It was the text and images in the menus that was having a problem. That would be a 2D graphic. And this has also happened to me with other very modern games. I think I fixed it with one of them before, but I don't remember how. I think normally this game is only available to actual military customers (I've seen a download link on a military website, but it requires I enter the number from my CAC card to prove I'm in the military, and being a civilian I have no such card). As such I found an alternative way to acquire a copy of the game, but I think it is a cracked copy, because normally it should be impossible to even start the game if it isn't properly activated with military credentials. Possibly the hackers who cracked the game, inadvertently also broke part of the game's graphics engine. That's about the only thing I can think of.
