Ok I know everyone gets mad at newbies asking the same old questions about how to make things work when the FAQ's are covering the subject problem is all the FAQ's I have read and the videos on youtube dont answer my question.

Which is how do you play a mod/add on?

Every single FAQ covers how to download the files where to store them in the mod folders i.e. @FAC then in the addons folder within that directory then modify the properties in the icon or use a loader. No problem there here is the problem. How do you play the mods? Where do you play the mods? Nothing I mean nothing says how to play them let alone find them. I have searched in the campaign area, the scenarios, the armory, and the editor. Nothing I see maps for all the mods I have downloaded but cannot figure how to use them. My editor has no preview button unless I make something within the map then I can preview all I want. Where in ARMA II do you find the moded games? Now because I have found no articles on how to play the mods within ARMA II im wondering if something is wrong with my ARMA II? I have seen many questions asking this question with no real replies except how to download and move files around into directories. But until you actually load your first mod you simply cannot understand how hard it is to figure this out. I never played modded files in ARMA so I guess im behind in the learning curve.

Hi and :welcome to armaholic.

If u managed to install the addons and launch them following the faq, the addon u install "should" appear in the editor or any other content which uses it.

So by installing a new units addons it won't change anything in your game. If a mission or gamemode doesn't use it u won't use it.

So load the game with the addon, start the editor and find the units there.

For example some pages have "Usage" section where it says:
In the editor: Civil \ Russia \ Air
or something like that, it means when u click on the map to add a new unit in the editor u have to select those to find it.

Some weapons for example need you to add some code to the init of the unit in the editor if they don't have an ammo box to play with them. All this can be found in the forums, specially the newbie faqs for arma and arma2 in the mission editing subforums.

Its not a case of them being played with editor. I think what you're getting at relates to replacement mods that write over the original weapons so you can use them in campaign and mutiplayer etc...
Unfortunately thats not what you'll be getting.
Here's what you can do instead...

A:Create your own campaign/missions in the editor
B:Play on servers that use the particular addon you were wanting to use. From my experience I am yet to find a server that operates with certain addons which I can get a decent connection to.

I hope you step on a piece of Lego you bastard.

I would like to play already made missions BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW where do you play them?

Servers? Man I hope you dont have young children as you will be completely confused.

Foxhound I think I've figured it out.

He doesn't know how to put them in ArmA 2 and activate them.(shortcut etc.)

*Atleast I think that's what he's getting at*

As i said if the mission, gamemode, campaign don't use addons u don't use them.

If they use addons u have to run the addons to be playing them.

Since u say there is no problem with installing and launching addons, where is the problem?

Missions go into the Missions, MPMisssions or Campaigns folders. Once u have them there u can go to your game and play them as u play the missions which came with teh game when u bought it. If u didn't run the addons u will see "u can not play this cause...."

as you are newbie some advices:
- have you ever played OFP ?
Arma and OFP 1 and BIS games are games for creative people, not for someone who "waits when someone will do and demands"
such type of players are in all this trash of CoD7, SoF8, Rambo666, War 3 and half etc.
BIS games are other

- how to use addons and create missions ?
you put addons into addons folder
you launch editor
you do mission
you test mission few times
you save mission and release it for other people to play, thats how it worked many years in OFP since 2001 ;)
thats why we LOVE OFP and BIS games

of course it is hard when someone is beginer to this community, but take it easy, we can learn you , you can search topics about mission making and etc.

community of BIS games works as community of people who share fun , not who "buy stuff and after 10 missions buy another stupify game"

there are guides to mission editor (showing points, units, triggers, game logic etc.)
even if you will do simple mission, you will do something useful for others to play - it is idea of BIS community

your missions WIP are saved to folder that is in "my documents/arma2..."
your ready missions are probably saved as i remember to "missions folder" in game directory

if you want, people here will help you and show guide to mission editor, how to use F1, F2, F3, F4, F5...
and you will find fun with also using other people missions (than download and put into missions folder)

the only think you must understand about Arma (to be not confused) it is that OFP/Arma are completly other games than usual games for passive, not-creative users

you know, one many buys photo idiot-camera "push one button", other people buy Canon EOS and use aperture, time, deep iso value, white balance etc.

most of BIS community are people with EOS, not with idiot-one button-camera
and it is sense of all being here since 5 years :)
ability to do something new, unique and creative

only this game allows you to have every unit you want

in other games you have "what developer did"
here not, in OFP we had 1864 mod, WW1 mod, many WW2 mods, many islands, LEGO warriors, star wars soldier, dinosaurs, we had 200 mods doing great unique job
now we have much much smaller community making stuff, but still you can have many things you want :)

LOL fortunately my girlfriend and I have made a pact not to have kids that will contribute to over population of this planet, as well is it potentially saving us 200k over 18 years.

Anyway, My advice would be to download pre made missions that other people have made (ones that use the addon you were wanting ingame)

Also, vilas I got the panasonic Lumix :D I still dont understand the settings on it though!

I hope you step on a piece of Lego you bastard.

OK this I guess is where I mess up I can enter the editor and select it says select island so I select "panthera v2.21"
up comes the editor with the following options "mission, intel, f1-f7 options, load, merge, save, clear, ids, textures, exit"
nothing is on the map by way of units and from what im told you have to have something loaded on the map to preview it right? So given what I wrote what am I not loading correctly? I have the arma II launcher with the @panthera in the mods window and its checked I launch with the arma 2 launcher 1.6.1.

Yeah well I have a young one and im used to explaining things so simple its kinda got my mind full of pudding. I have been trying to download mods like panthera but im still so lost I know I must being doing something wrong if its so simple nobody has to explain it. If you need a panasonic dummies book you can get them at any bittorrent search site. Made my EOS rebel real easy to use after using it.

Simple Answer:
Go download a mission that is made for Panthera.
OR
Get AddonSync2009 and use its Map filter to look for servers running the Panthera.

Nothing has changed since the predecessors. You have the Panthera map, and some units that came along with it. If you open up the editor, you can build a mission from scratch. Select Units, and click on the map to start placing. You won't have to learn too much to create some basic missions. If you want something already made, search on armaholic for those types of missions which there will probably be few of since its a new map.
