As you all know, editing in ArmA II requires a whole lot of classnames. Classnames are by far the most obnoxious part of basic editing techniques. I think that we should have a page of simple lists of classnames from weapon addons. Nothing sucks more than deleting an addon only to release that you needed the classnames. How about it?

Edit: If I remember correctly,my man RobertHammer used to post his classnames online. It made using his weapons far easier.

Edit II: Thanks to Viper CWW, for getting us started

Well, classnames should always be included in the documentation for all weapon addons, unless the addon maker is lazy. If you can't find the classnames for a particular addon, then I suggest you use scripting or open up the config files for a particular addon. Or tell the maker to not be lazy and give/update you on some documentation.

Yep I second that, good idea Walter. Finally someone who's doing that work the addonmakers should do in the first place.

It's not really that big deal to create classnames lists, just grab the addon and unpack it. Then eventually unbin the config file and browse through it, making sure you don't list something that is hidden from the editor. Or alternatively place the object in the editor and get the classname from the editor.

Looking forward to see your classnames list here.

:-D

Dont take all these sarcastic comments to heart Walter, what you ask is a very big ask indeed even with a few people working on it, it will still take a very long time.

Maybe people who make there addons can post the classnames here, then we can think about unifiying it into one big .pdf :-)

I actually tried something like that many months back but honestly, there are just way too many addons around to add them all.

What, addon makers who spend hours on precise modelling can't be bothered to copy and paste a notebook note? Furthermore, there may be 10,000 addons. People only care about maybe 30 tops. And there is no reason this couldn't be from now onwards, if there are too many classlists to post. Also, I recommend using the *SPOILER* for the lists, like RH does.
I'm not really asking for the moon here, so whats with the sarcasm? Hell, I would love to get started today with the few that I have.

Also, to Wolle, there is no reason for equipping units to be so difficult. For people with bad connections like myself downloading addons can take hours just to get a freaking readme. You're telling me that I'm somehow inferior to you because I don't like sifting through dozens of readmes?

Probably not, if you critize their work release your own addons and show them how its done.

Furthermore, there may be 10,000 addons. People only care about maybe 30 tops.

You care about 30 tops, thoussand of people care about 30 different tops, making a few toussand I would say.

Yes, I recommend that to you, get started and I sticky it. Thanks again for your ongoing and continous effort to get the classnames in a central area, awesome work!!

So? Whats keeping you? Post them here and get things going.

This is also the job of the addon maker, to release information like this under Notes on/for the download page. And to find classnames of weapons without re-downloading you can use some simple scripting techniques.

To find a classname of a unit put this on the init line:
hint format["%1", typeOf UnitName];

For weapons you can use eventhandler fired.
this addeventhandler ["fired", "hint format['weapon: %1 \nmagazine: %2', _this select 1, _this select 5];

Walter, get over it. No one here is attacking you because of that idea. It's just that it is a lot of work to add get every classname from an addon and add it to a list. :-)

Creating classnames lists is something the addon maker should do, not the people using his work.

The perfect solution would be a web based database where addon makers (or dedicated fans) can enter classnames, or provide classnames lists in a supported file format which then let people search the database or get complete lists. It's just that someone must make such a thing, which surely isn't done in 10 mins.

Here is 25 different weapon addons for Operation Arrowhead alone, So get started with the work if you want to see this "UNIFIED" classnames list.... seems you want others to do it for you.

Also know that there will be atleast 10-20 weapons in each pack.

And as foxhound rightly said your favourite 30 might not be the same as the next mans favourite 30, So I suggest that you find out the classnames of your favourite 30 cos i know i wont be doing it for you with that attitude :-)

Hey I'll throw in the first lot :-D

All that we need people to do is open readmes and copy them. It takes not long at all, nor is it difficult. Post away!
