Ok, this year is the 2nd year anniversary since ArmA2 was released "26th June 2009" so anytime soon
if im not mistaken in the gaming world were looking at either some news on ArmA3 or even a confirmation
that its in production what have you. Anyways, this thread is for you all to discuss on what you think they
should implement in the ArmA3 engine and what should be the factions, story, actual game engine, etc...

For example you should all know that there is the beautiful CryEngine in which ArmA3 could use, or others?

*look at the sandbox editor in that link too, we all know about the ArmA2 editor, but an improvement?

And for ArmA3 I only wish they can include "Procedural Destruction & Physics"

Do you think the US should be the main BLUFOR army? maybe the British? Germany? and do you think they
should also base the game on the middle east? or move to a completely new story line altogether? maybe
something like Asia? South America?

Also what about new and upcoming weapons? alot things were missed out on the ArmA2 & ArmA2/OA games!
such as the Jackle, Raptor, SaS, BIG Aircraft Carriers, plus tonnes more I could go on about ..

And how do you think BIS can improve on the AI? we all know that even if your hidden in the grass, you may
as well be dead as the AI can spot you very well! what things do you think could be improved?

Whats your opinions and ideas about ArmA3?

*Stick to the topic, no politics or against the rules stuff here.

WOW =-O That CryEngine is simply stunning, I dont think it will be any good for ArmA3 though as that will be some very demading graphics fps wise.

Also I think the USA should be on OPFOR and russia BLUFOR so we have there sides perspective while playing the campaign.... not a bad idea eh? :-)

We defiantely need the Raptor, I personally want the Cheytac Intervention M200 to be put in the game.... no links please I already know we have two community made versions but they dont simulate the real thing...

Maybe we could have a east european only conflict between two neighbouring countries.... leaving NATO out of it all together, more sea warfare would be nice too, and proper air fighting simulation with no tab locking LoL at the moment with BIS current engine it feels like flying bricks..... you should know Dark ;) *cough *cough ac130j :-D

Regarding the AI being able to spot you no matter where you are hiding near or far, I think the grass level change should be increased dramatically I think at the moment it disappears at 100m... which I noticed from a little editor testing today, which sucks... I mean you can be at 1200m+ and still be spotted straight away after firing your Sniper Rifle... plus the engaging fire is far to accurate... this can be seen in many video's on "ze youtube".

tbh most if not all things need to be changed.... why am I still playing this game? Because I love it :-)

I can see this turn into a ARMA 3 Wish list

- Hope buildings will be like OA. Where you are able to be inside anyone.
- Make players or models interact with vehicle mounted weapons (I just hate looking at my chopper gunner shooting a vehicle mounted weapon with his arms folded.)
- And Also Hope they stay with the Real Virtually Engine, If they change to a completely new engine then its good bye Arma for me..

# VIPER[CWW] : We defiantely need the Raptor,

Correction, We definitely need the US Airforce. Well most of what people are ask for is thing that only the Airforce employs.

But for the races, I could care less what they could be. Although the PLA mod makes me want to see a war between North Korea and South with China supporting North Korea once again and US with south :-)

Love the PLA mod, but Japan is something that hasnt been put in game yet!
I would see something more like a Korea destination if anything, so many games these days
are based on the middle east! its all getting boring now, lol... Korea is the next front war,
maybe even Iran .. but China v Japan? not gonna happen, lol

first of, dark, good thread.

one of my guys showed me this a couple of weeks back and i was just stunned by the detail and physics. its called real time immersive and its a simulation based upon the cry-engine. here a video of

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V396uuiAsU&feature=player_embedded

it pretty much gives you all the tools to create arma 3 and better, imo this is what arma 3 should look like since it already gives them about 70% of the game just by getting the engine.

i really hope they go all out on arma 3, even if that means wait another year or 2, or 3 if it looks like this!

We need a engine that does not need Steven Hawkings wheel chair to run it, I can just run OA as it is

OA is more optimized then ArmA II.... I suggest you look into getting a better pc. No problems running on my end on very high i get 100+ frames which go's down to 60+ in big battles obviously without vsync on.

They should make the locations in Iraq, with Bagdad, Monsul, and all of those Iraqi cities. With factions like Desert USMC and Iraqi insurgents. That would be cool.

some of the things id love to see in a possible arma 3 :

Able to shoot from vehicles
better looking units no half assing them with light gear like they arent trying
if your gonna make a real army arm them with their current weapons not the SCAR like the OA US(seriously BIS!?)
ragdolling
my chopper not exploding in a rough landing maybe even gibbing with the parts attached by small parts of metal and wires
a simpler editing system(IE a folder in the game with scripts youve dled and current ones like set the script down select the chopper you want to fast rope you down then it sets the waypoints down and place em where ever you need)
definitely more factions(japan,italy,germany,canada)
no more russians as enemies how about a terrorist group or a enemy PMC company
make the country more wartorn not calm and pretty
less vegetation we know you wanna make us some eye candy but make that eyecandy towards the wartorn look!
better physics maybe whenever a target is hit with a huge ass rifle they get kocked on theyre ass and probaly wont be back for tea
a simple first aid system where dont have to spawn the modules and sync them with the units you want to have a chance of survival make it for ALL units
working body armor
knives
more immerse sound system so a battle going on far away wont sound so close and varying effects like sound changing when you go into buildings

i guess thats all i can think of

I think that for Arma 3 depending on when it is released, the focus should be more on AI now. They can do the graphics, but in my opinion it's no excuse for lacking on AI improvements. Give AI the ability to act out of formation at times also, each AI should also be trying to find the best possible place to walk to or find cover for example, rather than the group just following the squad leader. Also is possible streamline the order process, so that it is easier for orders to be carried out. Also I hate seeing when I engage some enemies they stand straight up, looking around briefly then decide to hit the ground when they receive the order from their squad leader. Having the formation lightly held together rather than rigid, so each AI can move about to best suit them would be very ideal. If I engage an AI near a dip in the terrain, I kinda expect them to use that ditch for cover so they can return fire without being in the open. If I do that now (Proving Grounds comes to mind with it's ditches), then they just stay out into the open.

I also think a 3d editor would be really useful, but don't get rid of the 2d editor. It's easier to make an overall scenario work in the 2d editor but better for individual placement on a 3d editor. So allow us to go back and forwards between the two so we can tweak our scenario to be exactly what we want it to be.

Animations also should actually be useful. Stopping half-way through an animation should also be possible because right now, I believe they have to fully finish it. Adding more animations and making idle units or those just following waypoints actually carry out a selection of them randomly would be very nice to see.

Perhaps add an Aggression/Defence slider for each group and unit under the skill slider. Adjusting this would allow in the editor to adjust the aggressiveness and defensiveness of a group. But still, would be nice if the group took it's own decision depending on enemy numbers and incoming fire.

Edit: Also how about a better construction interface? Engineers perhaps actually work on buildings as they are being constructed?

Edit 2: Get proper ships floating and working. Perhaps some sort of Arty module designed for calling in fire from warships? They often do fire in-land in the real world, would be great to simulate that during a beach assault or invasion.

Edit 3: Bigger maps please. Proving Grounds brought in some nice terrain with ditches, little hills and bumps, lots of vegetation and lots of tactical opportunities. But we need bigger maps, if you can bring ditches to jump into, craters to take cover in, varying sizes walls and foundations to take cover behind and hills to get an upper hand upon, I'd be your loyal customer for life.

Edit 4: Better interaction with other friendly AI, perhaps using Radio? If there is for example, a squad under fire and a friendly attack chopper in the area. Perhaps being able to direct it's fire would be a game changer. Radio range and if the other unit thinks it could actually attack would be two other dimensions of course, but I think that this would be a great feature. Advising a friendly squad that they could be in a better position at a certain location would be great. A nearby Humvee or other vehicle with mounted weapons might not be able to see the enemy you can see, and visa versa, so being able to receive advice and give advice would be great tactically. Imagine being able to get a friendly AI squad to attack a certain side of a position while you do the other, joint breaches on compounds perhaps?

Edit 5 (Got ideas flooding in lol): Why not have a full on distribution and supply system? Engineers and sometimes other troops loading ammunition onto a vehicle or chopper for a supply drop? Being able to plan ahead and have ammunition brought to a Patrol Base where you believe a patrol in the area will soon get engaged could be really useful. You could then engage the enemy safe in the knowledge that you can push forwards and call in ammunition. Perhaps ordering AI to get the box out of the vehicle and then carry it over to a certain position? After that you could either order AI to fetch ammunition or perhaps they fetch it themselves.

Edit 6: Perhaps have some buildings have parts that go under the terrain. Tunnels and caves could perhaps also do this? Would be great for insurgent bases and a challenge to clear out.

Edit 7 (Some of you will hate me for this): Give each unit more animations to use while under fire or engaging? At the moment they just seem to point and shoot. Hand signals is a simple quick one to add, but perhaps more like random voices for each task? Engaging, spotted, ready to fire etc could give a real sense of being in a battle. Having ten or so voices for spotted would mean you could sometimes listen to what was said and gain information from that, knowing if your machinegunner can lay down fire exactly where best needed? Now this is what you will hate me for, but Call of Duty gives each AI the ability to get to walls or corners, look around them and be ready to fire from a safer area. Try this in Arma 2, you get most of the squad out in the open, not against a wall. Unless of course you want to spend a couple of minutes micromanaging, but that isn't really that fun in a battle when you could be taking the next position. It's all about giving them the cover ability for each AI and loosening up the squad at certain times, I think this would be a great improvement.

For example, say you was in a compound, being attacked. Having your AI immediately find cover and good positions to good from would be great! Someone going straight towards the doorway and taking cover against the wall behind it, shooting when they can see an enemy from there would be useful. Another AI going up to a wall where he can easily shoot over, taking cover behind it when not shooting, ducking when RPGs and fire comes close, would be fantastic.

100% agree with smurfy

It really annoys me to see my squad run around like idiots, standing next to cover and all that they do. BI, do as Smurfy says! :)

Oh also, why not include customised camo? Might not be everyone cup of tea but personally I'd like to have the ability to have different camo combats and jackets. Armour covers are often camouflaged also and helmets. It would lead the way to include more gurella factions perhaps. I mean, we can change weapons and other items, so why not camo also? Sure there is the uniform that must be kept, but for example, the American forces could use combinations of ACU, US Woodland, that Desert Chocolate Chip camo, the Multicam retail version, the Multicam US version (currently in use in Afghan I believe), US Marine MARPAT (woodland, desert and snow) and still look US. If the Brits was in, they could use DPM (Temperate and Jungle, perhaps the former trialled PECOC, there are stocks of it even though only issued as a temporary thing while MTP was being issued), DDPM (desert 2 tone DPM), MTP (Britain's new multicam pattern), Multicam retail and perhaps a few other older style camo's which could give it the British look.

Edit 2 (I'm on a roll today it seems):

If your going to make Arma 3, some advice for you guys. We enjoy having multiple factions available, because some community in the world is going to love them, even if 2/3rds don't use them. The fact that they are there is great. The majority of the community enjoyed the way you put out Arrowhead, it worked pretty well compared to the two DLCs. I personally paid around £15 for Arrowhead which of course is well worth the money, but I paid about the same for the two DLCs, and got half the content (half is being generous). I imagine BIS will make Arma 3, then an expansion similar to Arrowhead. Every expansion after or new content should be like that however.

How I would personally get the content issued out is like the following;

Say on Arma 3, it was US Marines vs Russians or something along those lines, that's fine. Expansion perhaps brings a giant new map and US Army vs another faction, that's fine. But when you add new content like you did in the DLCs, make them full on factions. Add another new giant map, add the new military in full, not just a selection of units (British army for example doesn't consist of a few unarmoured land rovers, Jackals and Warriors). For the campaign, make it so that it takes place not only on the new terrain, but also on the past one. Give a new campaign for the old military you put in, on the new terrain also. For example, you could have 3 Terrains, one where the US Marines started, one where the US Army started and one where the BAF started. But, the BAF might also stretch into the terrain with the US Marines or US Army, and the same they would also stretch into the new terrain. Add new content to the previous factions, even if only the amount which was seen in the DLCs and keep the retail version to the size of Arrowhead and Arma 2.

This way, when you release your expansion, it encourages people to also use this new content. For example, some Americans I imagine wouldn't want to use the BAF, but if you added some new US Stuff into that (DLC Size perhaps), a new giant map and new campaign and missions, you've probably got their interest if not money. For those in Britain in this example, they would love the BAF, the new map and since it's an expansion, would love the extra bits added for the previous factions. The missions and campaign would also go down a treat.

I would rather spend 2 - 3x the cash on a full on expansion than on a DLC sized package. If your frightened of not being able to get more than half of the community to buy your next expansion, do the above and add content for everyone, while keeping the expansion mainly focused on the new faction and map.

I have one thing that I must say for a wish list, and that is making the AI's actually get into the vehicles, planes etc. you know like actually opening the door. No more of this just hop in the air sh** and wah! lah! you are driving a humvee. Just a thought. I mean this is a realistic game so why not make it all realistic. Oh and another thing, I am not sure what it is called, but when you kill or get killed I think it would make it so much more realistic if they died different ways each time( Like a rag doll) I hate how there are only 3 or 4 ways they drop dead, maybe some kind of feature of dying like you see in the COD:Black Ops when you kill some one, they actually look like they are falling to their death or getting killed. I just love how the rag doll effect makes everything look so real!

One request--
NO DESERTS. I'm sorry I can't stand deserts, and EVERY game has them, thats what i love about vanilla ArmA 2, it's not another generic desert map. Then Operation Arrowhead came along and whoops another desert, i love what OA gave as features and new tech though, anyways great thread guys.

@Smurfy

For the animations I hope you don't mean like Call of Duty (Forgive me for even mentioning it).

I have a nice little story for ya.

I was once playing MW2 with a friend, he wanted to verse me despite my hatred for the game, we played split-screen. He was a Grenadier is the Rambo call of duty player so I decided I would be a sniper, ghillie suit and all... Anyways to the point!

I was hiding in a very concealed location, with relatively okay cover. My Sniper character preformed a stupid animation were he poked his head up and looked around carelessly. Because this he saw me and I was no longer covered as much, He light me u. Fin, for me and the story.

Just thought I'd mention it because I would hate that in ArmA
