This reminds me of the star wars episodes :lol Didn't they make the last episode first, and the first episode last? Does that even make sense? :O_o :lol

My understanding of it again...

BIS uses their own graphics engine (wich is under continuous development).

Back in 2005 (?) they anounced 2 projects:
Arma was to be a new game using the OPF:E engine (xbox), a much better engine than the old OPF one.
The OPF:E engine featured great optimisation, data streaming for island data, improved colision detection, simulated waves, wildlife and grass, improved shadows and lighting, textures, animated vegetation, etc.

Game 2 was an all new thing using next gen graphics (wich we saw on screens and actually got with Arma).
Other than that all it had was ideas and things they wanted to make for it (like a dynamic SP campaign with rpg elements).

Arma features the neat dx9 graphics (game 2's) and OPF:E features, it turned out to be more than what they aimed for in some ways but there were things that didnt really turned out so well.

Now BIS present Arma II, looking just like the first one. My opinion is that they will now push the engine further and develop things they didnt have the means and time to create before.
How can this be a bad thing?

Im all for it, as long as the community can have it for free, or they show us some very big improvements with ArmA first.

I dont understand why people are so upset about this new game cause thats what it is.......a new game.

You (anyone in general) feel like being a beta tester with Arma? :lol
I can remember a lot of previews and reviews burning the game very very down........still you bought the game. Actually many people started to complain about those testers and how noob they were.

The fact that you bought the game doesnt mean you are entitled to anything. You didnt have to be a "beta tester", it was your own choice.
BIS has supported Arma pretty good with patches and fixes...........ok, some patches just introduces new bugs but what the hell, you dont more bugs than day 1, you have less bugs than day 1.............so they are fixing it.

A gamer is a consumer, not a golden child who deserves all respect.
A consumer has to pay for the things he want and he has to pay again if he wants the same but improved.
Stop acting like golden childs and except the fact there is nothing special about a gamer and start realising you are making the boss of BIS being able to drive his BMW............nothing different as you do with the boss of your neigbourhoods grocery store (who probable has a mercedes) but that doesnt make you entiled to anything.

I am not saying I am completely happy with Arma and BIS is the best and blablablablablabla
Nope..........
I am just excepting the fact it wont get anything different with all the complaints. I am pretty happy with what we got as a game, I enjoy it a lot as do many others.
I will buy QG the day its out and I will buy Arma II the day it comes out.
I will be smiling and having fun while so many others will spend their time filling forums with complaints and complaints and more which wont change a thing.
:lol

And if it sucks.............
Than I quit and move on.

@Heatseeker, thanks for clarifying.
I guess I understood it wrong.

Yes I agree with part what your saying fox :)

But like your saying about the BMW etc... I don't think people will pay 100k or however much they cost for a half finished car :) And for the people that buy those luxury cars, are either rich gits, or their company buys it for them. :) So either they wont car too much.

If BIS would of stated that the ArmA we play now was a BETA then yeh, everyone will still most probably go out and buy it, but they wont feel hard done by because they know its a BETA. :)

|D:W| Gaffa : But like your saying about the BMW etc... I don't think people will pay 100k or however much they cost for a half finished car :)

Ever bought a new car? I have bought 2 now and most of the times there are things wrong, going from engine troubles (oil etc) to defected radios.
Not every new car is bugged with small things but there always are things you have to go back for.

And for the people that buy those luxury cars, are either rich gits, or their company buys it for them :)

One way or the other.........that money is coming from someone........or did they grow it in ther backyards ;)
People only get rich cause they earn money (not counting any lottery's and stuff), to earn money that means others are paying you :)
Even if the company buys it for you, the company still does it with the money it earned from their customers.

If BIS would of stated that the ArmA we play now was a BETA then yeh, everyone will still most probably go out and buy it, but they wont feel hard done by because they know its a BETA. :)

If they do that the entire world will sue them. There is no way to admit it ever was a beta.
It wasnt a beta anyway, they just released it to soon to keep the community happy, but thats something the community doesnt and will not understand.
I have seen it with other games as well............delay, delay, delay.......community starts flying in the air from anger and they release a bugged game.
The community has to understand why games are being delayed........they do it to make sure it works.........not to play fool with us :p

Offcourse........there comes a point you cant delay it any longer. But that point wasnt reached with Arma.

@fox: I totally agree with you when you say you can just leave if it sucks, that new games have bugs and that you have to pay for other ppl's work. But I don't agree when you say we should have known that we are gonna buy a beta. I bought the game the day it was released and at that time the official reviews were definitely not pointing out the weaknesses of the game and the ratings were WAY to high. Second I have never bought a game which was so buggy right from the start and which turned out to be so much less than everybody thought it would be AND BIS promised it would. I think I have the right to demand a certain level of quality for my money and I just did not get that. Just because nowadays it is a common problem that products hit the market before they are working properly does not mean you just have to accept it and shut up. If BIS is going to go the EA/Dice way they will lose at least one customer soon and that's me. I have just stopped to play BF2 from one day to another (though I liked the game a lot) because I was simply pissed off by their lack of support and the expensive but worthless addons. Nobody has to care for the way I see things but if I were BIS, I would. I am convinced that community building is a key to success in the gaming business. BIS' image however is ruined in my point of view and I will definitely not buy a game from them again at the day it is released but I will wait and see how it's going. So BIS may allready has lost some money.

To end this discussion and to have the final say I state that BIS is a Nazi-company which is run by Adolf Hitler's secret son. Hence Godwin's Law is forfilled and the thread can be closed. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

KameradBot : But I don't agree when you say we should have known that we are gonna buy a beta. I bought the game the day it was released and at that time the official reviews were definitely not pointing out the weaknesses of the game and the ratings were WAY to high.

When the Czech version was released we already saw at least one preview (if not multiple) with a really not so good score. The community was divided up to what we were going to get and the noob level of reviewers.
After the Czech version was released more reviews came up with some bad comments.........but as always we saw positive and negative (p)reviews.
Its once choice who to believe..........I never believe them anyway. Positive or nagative, I like watching the screenshots and read about the features of the game.

If you bought the German version there was even more time to know what you were buying :)

I think most (if not all) previews are covered here in our forums.

Second I have never bought a game which was so buggy right from the start and which turned out to be so much less than everybody thought it would be AND BIS promised it would.

I never bought a game so buggy neither, I fully agree to that.
However, I knew what I was buying cause I read the feedback of the people who bought the Czech version and those (p)reviews mentioned above.

Since so many people are so worried about Arma II to be bugging the hell out of your computers I think its best we all just wait and see.
I know I will.........:)

And more important............wait with buying a few weeks, see the usermade videos and bug reports and than decide what you want to do.
Buying the game day one is no longer an option for many of you so it would be stupid if you would act differently when the game is released........no matter what any preview tells us ;)

Goooooood Morning Armaholics,

After being on the GC in Leipzig as a "normal" fair visitor with no chance of looking inside the "Holy Hall 1" untill I met "Moses" from the Armabase.de (eSports) who showed me all the nice things that are happening in and around ArmA. Just to keep you guys on course ...ArmAII is a whole different game. It is more Europe like...or Northamerican like parts of Canada. The trees are way different(no Tropical beach Club feeling anymore) The trees fully natural, that means like when you look into a reallife forest the trees grow as they wanna...some are straight, some cripled and so on. The colour of the trees is not just green, they look all different ...each and everyone of them and each one is destroyable...I hope you know what I´m getting at. The Map is 4 times bigger than our Islands in the sun in Arma. As you could see in the video, that running rabbit was quite an eyecatcher....all that is based on a fully new Arma engine. Armed Assault and ArmA2 are 2 different pairs of shoes.

Just incase anyone here can read german, then check this out----> http://www.armabase.de/cms/include.php?path=content/articles.php&contentid=416

those who can´t, well maybe someone will be so kind to let google translate it for you

BTW...hi to all the Armaholics out there, my name is 5ch0k0 from God´s Army http://www.ga-godsarmy.de :thumb

Hi GA5ch0k0, :welcome to Armaholic.

Thank you very much for giving us the info you know about Arma II. The more info people share the better picture we get of what to expect.

Also, armabase.de allowed us to translate the article into english already what our community member _Barns_ did for us.
