Our colleagues at armabase.de have released a second video which they took during their visit to the GC in Leipzig showing the AI in Arma 2.

The base of the AI is still the same as it is in Arma however in Arma 2 the AI has been improved and also Bohemia Interactive has given the AI Micro-AI.
This Micro-AI maeks the units move more realistic. This means they could flee when they "think" they are in a very bad position, the AI looks for cover or they clear the area without the need to command them.
Also the AI uses handsignals which by themselves only add to the visiuals since the AI uses the radio to communicate.

Also the pathfinding has been improved including the place on the road where the AI drives.
In Arma 2 the AI will use the right side of the road so that 2 cars can pass eachother without troubles on 1 road.

The video below shows some Russian troops which have been given orders by Ivan Buchta and you will see them perform those orders.
In the second part of the video you will see a battle done by only AI units.

Thanks to Ivan Buchta of Bohemia Interactive as well as the team from armabase.de for sharing all this new information about Arma 2 with the community.

mr.g-c posted a link to the MILpictures website in the BI forums showing 4 boxart screens for Arma 2 as well as 8 loading screens.

Quote Tom Weber :
Tom Weber has been contracted by Bohemia Interactive (BIS) to produce a spectacular cover picture for the official successor to the highly popular and successful computer game "Operation Flashpoint". Additional pictures from this shooting will be used for worldwide advertising for ArmA2.

You can view all pictures by clicking "Read more".
We know these have been announced earlier in our news as well but with the current new Arma 2 informations coming out we thought it would be nice to make a poll about them. You can vote on the homepage which boxart you prefer.

***** Update *****

VojtzechGamer has written a short summary of what is being said in this video, you can read it on our forums.

*****

Maa from the CSLA studios has posted a link in the BI forums to a 21 minute video featuring Ivan Buchta lead designer at Bohemia Interactive at the GC 2008.
In the video which is in Czech you can view some AI units engaging eachother while Ivan uses the camera to see how the AI moves around.
Another short part is about the "high commander" mode and also you can view Ivan Buchta fly in a F35 over Chenarus.

Since everything is spoken in Czech it would be appreciated if someone could post a summary about what is said or even better add a translation.
You can view the video by clicking "Read more".

Our colleagues at armabase.de have released a third video which they took during their visit to the GC in Leipzig showing the available vehicles and their features in Arma 2.

There are lots of new vehicles in Arma 2, offcourse the Humvee in many differet types as well as the Abrams tank.
In total there are 50 vehciles in different types available, this sets the total of different types of vehicles in Arma 2 at 120.
In Arma 2 more attention has been given to the Russian side, the US will no longer be up against some old material but instead the Russians use very modern vehicles.
For example the T-90 which, in real life, can fire rockets from its back side, the "Vodnic" which is a Russian type Humvee. Also the rebels will have the ability to use the Technical we all know from the "Blackhawk Down" movie, tractors which can be used to move planes are available and lots more.
Not only do we have more available vehicles in Arma 2, we also get some things we have always wanted in Arma, for example an Abrams crew of 4 which enables the use of 2 MG's.

Also a new addition is the fact each vehicle now has multiple sounds, this means the vehicle will produce different sounds depending on the ground its driving on. Driving on some grass will now sound different to driving on a street.

In the video which you can watch below Jan Prazak of Bohemia Interactive present a couple of different vehicles

Thanks to Ivan Buchta of Bohemia Interactive as well as the team from armabase.de for sharing all this new information about Arma 2 with the community.

Maruk has released two original unedited sound samples in the BI forums to give the community a preview of the Arma 2 ingame sounds which will be improved a lot compared to Arma.

Quote Maruk :
Maruk, again.
Thank you for your feedback to my previous post about ArmA II UH-1Y Venom in-game screenshots.

As you are already familiar with visual style and quality of Arma 2, I want to give you preview of another important aspect of the game, sound, that will probably be not getting that much attention from various popular gaming media sources (which I am confident will be providing a lot of coverage in coming months about Arma 2).

I admit that sound was not very strong asset in first Arma (and in fact, the sound system used in Real Virtuality 2 engine didn't change much from OFP, except moving from DirectSound3D to OpenAL) but we are aiming to change it dramatically this time. Sound improvements wasn't too obvious from our GC live demos (partly because of the loud environment on the show and partly because the sound part of the game is not really complete yet).

Two audio samples attached, as usually, these are genuine in-game sound recordings - my word for it.
Note that this sound fidelity is result of real-time combination of 44 different audio samples just for the engine/rotor take off and landing sequence of UH1, using our brand new flexible and powerful sound system implemented in Arma 2.

Download the UH-1Y exterior mp3 from here.
Download the UH-1Y interior mp3 from here.

Suma has posted some unofficial information about the differences regarding performance in Arma 2 between Dual Core or Quad Core CPU's in the BI forums.
As said this is unofficial information and things could very well change when the game is ready for release.
We thought it was some very interesting information about a discussion where, till now, nobody really knew Arma 2 was standing regarding CPU support.

Quote Suma :
Our intention is to scale at least to some extent to quad cores (this means with quad cores you should have either better performance in some scenes than in dual cores). Therefore the game should run better on Quad Core compared to Dual Core assuming they both run at the same frequency.

That said, you can get higher frequency Dual Core for the same money as you could get Quad Core. My prediction is 3.3 GHz Dual Core will most likely run the game better than 2.5 GHz Quad Core, while both will cost you approximately the same.

One thing to note: different scenarios / workloads may show different performance patterns - e.g. it is possible missions with huge numbers of units will runner better on 2.5 GHz Quad Core than 3.3 GHz Dual Core.

Disclaimer:
This is only a prediction and things can still change before the game is released.

A few weeks ago we showed you part I of a Czech video from the GC 2008 in Leipzig with Ivan Buchta.
Today SASrecon informed us part II was released 2 weeks ago and nobody seems to have noticed it.
This video shows the F-35 in flight, plenty of very detailed landscape, a tall but very detailed communications tower, interaction with a couple of female civillians and it also shows the ability to switch between the members in your squad.

If anyone can translate for us what is being said in this video feel free to post in the forums (Arma 2 section) or contact one of the staff!

As most of you will probably already know Jerryhopper and Loki have had the chance to interview Ivan Buchta Lead developer of Arma 2 in the Goodmorning Sahrani radio show.
In this 2.5 hour- 2 part special, Mr J.Kingsley & Jerry Hopper dive into the depths of the upcoming blockbuster from Bohemia Interactive, Arma 2.
Armed with over 100 community questions this is probably the most revealing show of this year.

In chapter one, which was aired last week Ivan Buchta tells about himself and answered all the questions that the community have left on the radio sahrani answering machine.
This weekend chapter two was aired. In chapter two, Mr Hoppper & Kingsley try to get as much of the submitted written questions answered as possible.

Download chapter 1 of the interview with Ivan Buchta from www.armedassault.eu.
Download chapter 2 of the interview with Ivan Buchta from www.armedassault.eu.

Note:
The first chapter was rerecorded completely to serve the community better.
The first recording wasn't worthy for the community, and therefore there is now a 'ClearVoice' version released (use links above).

SASrecon has informed us about some new Arma 2 informations which have been released at the games.tiscali.cz and the gamestar.hu websites.
We have used an online translator to translate the info from the games.tiscali article but its far from perfect, if anyone can sent us a translation of both articles you would make the Arma community very happy!

You can find the complete but bad translation by clicking "Read more".

Quote games.tiscali.cz :
