Bohemia Interactive has released a new blog entry covering information about the upcoming release of ArmA2 dealing with vegetation and modeling of characters

This morning ArMaTeC from armatechsquad.com informed us about a new Arma 2 information sharing idea he and Dwarden talked about.
At the same time ArMaTeC created a real simple IRC client that you can use on your deskstop to be able to easily join the Arma 2 IRC chat.
This IRC chat client is still in beta.

-snafu- informed in our forums that the official Arma 2 website has been updated with new information about the Arma 2 factions.
This weeks video introduces the fifth faction: Russian Armed Forces.
Russian contingent of Chernarussian Peacekeeping Forces consists of elite Guard Motor Rifle battalion, reinforced by armor, artillery and attack helicopter detachments. Based on their previous experience with counter-guerrilla operations, Russians also make good use of special forces.

Gamestar ArmA 2 Alpha Video Preview
Redken informed our colleagues from armed-assault.de Gamestar have done a preview of an Alpha version of Arma 2 in November 2008 and released a video of the preview on a DVD in the January 2009 edition included with the Gamestar magazine.

Although in the video there is nothing we did not see already there still are a few nice features visible worth mentioning:
    - Conversation system
    - Optional first person Optics confirmed
    - Short view of the hand signals in Arma 2
    - Commandsystem of the campaign missions when you progress



Gamesport.cz Arma 2 Preview
Przemek_kondor posted a Czech Arma 2 preview by Gamesport.cz on the BI forums which was already released in January but seems to have passed by unnoticed by many (including Armaholic).
Deadfast has translating a the interview and posted it on the BI forums.

The main difference in vehicle behavior is larger count of gun positions, but the movement physics were changed too. Our attention is also aimed at the behavior of AI drivers.....

The fact that AI in ArmA can see through leafs and bushes is a sort of an urban myth. Every tree, every bush and even grass has an invisible part of a model which defines a vision barrier for the AI. Usually this model mainly covers the log and dense parts of the overgrowth, with less dense parts having minimum of it.
On the other hand our AI doesn't have only sight, but also hearing. If you give yourself out while relocating by, for example, fast spring or even gunfire not even the densest bush will save you. And because the AI knows how to use suppressing fire it is possible it will shoot at you without having a visual sight, just as a human player would do. Another myth is you can't hide in tall grass, which you of course can. But again you have to lay without a single movement or a shot, otherwise you'll give your position away.

We didn't want to really change the GUI of the editor. Even though there are some important improvements, like, for example, more transparent sorting of insert-able objects and units. More categories were added and a sorting by 5 armed factions of the game. Another improvement are the so-called modules, adding more advanced elements into the mission. After adding a single object into the mission it can become richer of, for example, villagers in the villages. Similarly you may add modules for first aid, carrying of wounded, command interface for commanding whole groups and many other features.......

Well, depending on the fact that our community is still very active and moved over to also creating for the previous ArmA: Armed Assault we are sure we can expect similar interest in ArmA 2, maybe even bigger. Of course we will provide our community with updated tools and enough of information. It is interesting that even though creation of addons today is much more exhausting - models are more complicated and complex, technology is more complicated - every day more and more addons, modifications, missions and maps are released. Plus, the possibilities of the game and the engine will again be expanded and more interesting with ArmA 2.

2 new screenshots have been released on 2 different community pages created to inform the public about Arma 2.
The first one was released on the newly created Steam Arma 2 community (thanks to armedassault.info) and the second one on the Arma 2 facebook page. The third Arma 2 screenshot is an old one we did not post about yet and which was also released on the Facebook page.

After the last Arma 2 faction video was released last week a whole new section opened on the official Arma 2 website today.
The new section shows the Arma 2 weaponry and looking at the page it seems we will see more info about the following weapons very soon:
    - Handguns
    - Assault weapons
    - Machineguns
    - Sniper rifles
    - Specialist weapons
    - Shotguns
    - Launchers
    - Static weapons
    - Static launchers
    - Artillery
Keep an eye on the Arma 2 weaponry.
And that is not all, today an exclusive event was planned on the Steam Arma 2 community page and a new screenshot has been released from WIP alpha version, you can view it below.

Suma has released some more information about what soft- and hardware will be supported by Arma 2 on the BI forums.
Although some of it might already be old news for most of you we thought it sure was worth mentioning this on the news!

DirectX9 & DirectX10 support:
    There will be no specific support for DirectX 10 API - we see no point in this. DX10 does not bring any significant new technologies and it does not provide any better performance compared to DX 9.
    We will concentrate on making the DX9 implementation as good as possible, including techniques like Cascade Shadow Maps or Parallax Occlusion mapping.
Soundblaster X-FI support:
    Based on our past experiences we will drop support for any sound HW acceleration and we will switch from OpenAL to XAudio2. This way all customers will get the same functionality (hopefully including reverberations) but in a robust manner (not having to fight with moody DirectSound drivers).
Physx support "Ageia & GPU":
    Three will be no PhysX support.
Intuitive Voice Commanding, maybe multiple language support:
    There will be no built-in voice recognition in ArmA 2. That said, we are still designing the interface in such a way 3rd party solutions should work with the game the same way as they did with OFP and ArmA.


And at the same time we want to inform you all about a video Dogz made some time ago about Arma 2 and which he released on our Arma 2 forums.
It is an video edited by using content from the previously released previews and trailers for Arma 2.
This is not Official but it does represent Arma 2 as it includes all factions which were released at the moment the video was made.


Let Dogz know what you think of his work in this topic so he might be willing to make some more edited Arma 2 teaser videos for all to enjoy in the future!

While browsing the different Arma 2 related websites we found the 505games website was updated with what it seems the final packshot for Arma 2 and also we can see the game has been rated mature (18+).

Today the first section of the Arma 2 weaponry, the Assault Rifles, has been revealed on the Official Arma 2 website.
ArmA 2 features variety of personal weapons, grenades, artillery pieces and tripod- or vehicle-mounted weapon platforms. All the weapons were created and their features designed according to the specifications of their real-life counterparts.

Features:
    - Accurate models including graphics, sounds and animations.
    - Variants with various scopes and accessories, including collimator sights, optical sights, grenade launchers or silencers.
    - Optics have realistic zoom and field-of-view settings and reticles.
    - Animated parts for shooting and reloading (triggers, receivers, ammo belts) and eject brass.
    - Customized character animations for holding weapons based on inverse kinematics.
    - Simulation of bullet ballistics, including material penetration and bullet deflection.
    - Ammunition power and magazine compatibility according to the real life.
    - Impact effects and sounds for various materials in the environment.
    - Tracer rounds are used in realistic way.
