RoyaltyinExile posted the following on the BI forums:

As the Take On Helicopters development moves through beta, we're ready to start letting players take a sneaky peek under the hood.
To begin with, we're set to offer a limited amount of work-in-progress content to the community, including one of our helicopters, its associated flight-model and the new interactive functionality.

In this thread, we'll try to keep you up to date with any notable updates to the plans or the preview data. Below follows some early info about the Preview.

  • What? Take On Helicopters - Community Preview (Downloadable)
  • When? Preview Launched on 24.06.11; periodic automatic updates thereafter
  • Who? Owners of Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead
  • How? Download from our website, right now!
Important! these releases are very much work-in-progress (wip) and do not feature final content. We’ll try to list major known issues, but if you are not willing to deal with wip features, bugs or instability, please do not try these releases and wait for the game to be finished!

Note: Use shortcut created by the installer and do NOT run directly the binary of TOH Community Preview.

Feedback! We look forward to receiving your feedback in this section of the forums, where you can discuss many different aspects of the game.
The Community Issue Tracker is also kindly providing a project category to post issues to directly, which is useful for identifying/keeping a track of known issues.

Today we take on public feedback for the first time, by releasing our Community Preview. Anybody with a copy of Operation Arrowhead is now able to fly the work-in-progress light helicopter above Takistan.

Community Preview

We’re striving to regularly update this preview, by providing fixes and new features, partly in response to the community’s valued feedback. More importantly, this release will allow enthusiastic modders to already get their hands on some exciting new technologies and start planning their custom content.

Picture-in-Picture, saving & loading to user profile, rope simulation and the new flight model are just a few of the technologies available. Keep in mind, however, that there will be a great many improvements, fixes and changes leading up to the official release, so any content you create now may need changes later.

More information can be found on the official blog, with the full details packaged in with the read me file, bundled with our distribution! Here at Team Take On, we sincerely hope you enjoy your flight!

How to install and run the community preview:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
To install for the first time, run the preview EXE to apply the setup automatically (you may be prompted to choose your exact version in some occasions). To update, you must un-install and install once more.

* This will install all preview content to a mod folder "tkoh_preview"

* To launch TKOH Community Preview, you must use the shortcut "Launch TKOH Community Preview". This is located in the main game directory.

* Note, you can always run your Arma2 OA final version in the main Arma2 OA folder if you use default application shortcuts, start menu or run the regular arma2OA.exe without the preview mod folder.

Extra information: you can configure your TKOH Community Preview to include other mods, etc.

* To launch custom mods, just make make sure that in your ArmA shortcut start-up target line:

- You are running the takeonhpreview.exe.exe from your "tkoh_preview" folder.

- You have "tkoh_preview" in your modfolder as in -mod=tkoh_preview
example:
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead\tkoh_preview\takeonhpreview.exe.exe" -mod=tkoh_preview

- Make sure the shortcut's "Start In" section refers to main "ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead" main working folder and NOT "ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead/tkoh_preview"
example:
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead"

Played the community preview extensively today, and I must say I like the way the flight handling/physics is going, the helicopter provided in this early alpha stage is very crisp and the render to texture is great, I've been sold on this ToH now, where as before I wasn't going to buy it, hopefully and more then likely all this will be transferred over to ArmA III to provide a more immersive flight experience. :-)

I have to say I'm positively surprised - the helo flys really great, they did good work on new flightdynamics imo, and it looks fantastic. Can`t wait for more, and I will buy TOH for sure. Thank you BIS!

Was really looking forward to this and i am not disappointed .

the small Render to texture in the helo is fantastic even in its current form ( small) . the flight handling is a vast improvement albeit with some obvious WIP features , i am going to enjoy this when its final , the potential for Arma is also great.

Keep it up

you have to use the short cut created by the installer in in nameof disk : Programs\bohemia int...\arma2\toh_communitypreview shortcut

dont use the exec in the tkohfolder direct and dont create a new shortcut by clicking the exe in that folder that doesnt work either, to be honest they shouldnt have put all the other lines about -mod= etc in the read me its confusing folk :)

a friend of mine uses this and is pretty satisfied. I'm to lazy for a pedal ;-) and just use a saitek x52 pro. (Pedal optional) both are good.

The chopper in TOH looks stunning, but playing with trackIR my head is definitely not where it should be.
(Sometimes even outside of the helicopter.) Anyway, I hope these new flight characteristics will also make it into arma3 (at least optional). Good work so far.
