Well thank god for the good Armaholic forums! No need for a silly Confirmation from the Admins before I post a topic :D

Well I am very frustrated right now, because I have saved up my 30 bucks and bought Arma 2 Combined Operations from Steam. This is Pretty much Arma 2, and Operation Arrowhead together but with a Fancy name.

I had these two problems when I tried to run them on Steam:

After that happened, I raged and Cursed :p then Searched the Problem on Google. Someone else had the Same problem, and was told to Verify the Install on Steam. I got help from a Friend on how to do that, and I did it with Arma 2 and it worked. [I verified it on Steam by right clicking on the game, Properties, Local Files, and: Verify Integrity of Game Cache...] And Arma 2 Normal Version works fine for me now.

BUT when I tried it with Operation Arrowhead:

Or... am I supposed to Manually Add Operation Arrowhead to the Origional Arma 2? I mean.. it IS an addon... or does it come with the game too?

Will ssomeone PLEASE help me with this, its really getting the better of me :/

OA is stand alone doesn't require arma2.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men then himself.

The only thing I can suggest is uninstall and reinstall which is really no help at all(unless it works lol). I also run the steam version and Haven't run into this issue ever, and I've been playing through steam since arma2 release,Well around arma2 release.

To run Combined Operations in Steam:

- Launch Arma 2 once then exit
- Launch Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead once then exit
- Right-click on Operation Arrowhead in Library and select Run as Combined Operations (or something similar).. this loads Arma with the content of both games.

Looking at that 2nd error message however leads me to believe you might have a corrupted file in your Steam install which is causing Steam to try and re-download that file. You could try deleting the characters2.pbo file, run the Steam validation again and see if Steam can figure it out. If not deleting and re-installing might be your only option *SORRY*

Bless you my son.

Thanks for Trying to help guys.

I have Successfully Re-downloaded Arma 2 (origional) and that used to work, now it has a NEW problem: Cannot open file'addons/buildings2.pbo

And I dont have much hope for Operation Arrowhead either. I will make a topic on the Bohemia Interactive forums, We will see if there is someone there who can help.

Well thats the last time I will be buying something from Steam. Please tell me: is there any way to get a Refund from my Purchase?

Have you tried to reboot and retry the game?
Have you checked if the game is all patched up? I am really not into Steam but they also provide you with checks for your game. Like repair and to check for updates etc.
Have you checked what is running in the background? Any programs which should not be running?

Steam has the most respected policy of not doing refunds.......better buy your games elsewhere if you always want to have that option ;-)

I was getting the exact same error message yesterday, along with another error message right after it "Error compiling pixel shader PSSpecularAlpha:0"

I don't know the exact reason why but to fix the issue I used steam to "delete local content" for both Arma 2 and OA. I did a search for anything Arma related and deleted it all. This includes the Arma folder in Program Files/Steam/steamaps/common and there's an Arma folder in the documents folder as well. Both deleted. I then made sure I restarted steam "as administrator" (this could have been my problem) and installed Arma 2, ran it, installed OA, and it ran without those two errors.

Now I have a completely different issue with both Arma 2 and OA constantly freezing on me for a couple seconds every few seconds. Makes the game unplayable...... buuut, that's another topic.

Thats really no good man, I wish you best of luck getting it working again.

It works now! :D I have been playing on some busy servers and have made my first ARMA 2 Video already!

Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzfT6PupiMk

Actually thast was made with the OA demo, but I will enjoy doing some heli extractions and other stuff along the way!

I did the Delete Local content and re download and install, I id it lots of times but the 3rd or fourth time, I downloaded it over night and it suddenly works in the morning. Probably because I uninstalled steam and Re-Installed on my Portable ahrd drive (F: expansion)

Thankyou my friends for all your Support. What a great community here in Armaholic.
