Hey Guys,

I am not new to MP games, race online competitively with iracing.com, but I am new to ARMA 2. I am very excited about getting started but I would love to have an exp person give me some input and spend some time with me if they can afford to do so...

I know there are some `must haves` add-ons and I would love to download and install the Vietnam War modules but I have no clue how to begin.

I have questions about MP, because I am a newbie I am afraid of looking like a total idiot. I checked out the MP servers and I see people on them, do I just join them? I am thinking they are friends and why is this guy coming in...

What the hell is DayZ? Zombies, is that correct?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Heppy

Welcome to Armaholic :-)

Every downloadpage has instructions how to install and use custom addons, please read the provided info and all is clear. If not ask specific questions.

Yes, you can join MP servers when you want. If they are not passworded anyone is welcome. All you need to do is make sure you have all addons installed the server uses.

Yes, DayZ is another mod for Arma 2 about Zombies.

A lot of info can be found when you simply search a bit, none of the questions you ask have info which is hidden in a secret corner.

The phrase a "must have" addon is an oxymoron, and particularly for ArmA*.
____
Don't want to look like an idiot in a public server?
Easy.
Get your practise with using the various weapons and driving/flying the various vehicles/aircraft available in Single Player, not online.
Beyond that, you are sure to find someone online/ingame to fill in any blanks and/or show you the ropes.
____
Good luck!

WOW Foxhound... So you are a super admin, and your way of helping someone out is to direct them to the "SEARCH" page, and tell me to search a little bit... Seems strange for a super admin to do that.

Second, I have 4 posts, which again one of them was moved by you and never received any form of response, and one of them asked me to locate my directory.

A community forum is for all levels of people, but to be quite frank, you have made me feel very uncomfortable and to be honest almost stupid. I didn't just post help question without looking in the first place.

I don't understand how to install mod's, and get them to work, and play this game. I have tried, and my latest post that you so nicely locked down explained the ERROR I was getting after the little help that I received.

So thanks for locking me down, and not getting to play this game Mr. Foxhound! Perhaps as a "SUPER ADMIN" you can help people out instead of criticism them. I wish I was at your level that can install anything and begin playing!

have a great holiday season!

never joined a clan, squad or any of that, been playing this game since the stone ages and I learned from watching others...you will get chewed up on this forum for what the deem "stupid" questions or if they feel you didnt look hard enough...
If you need help with the game, getting the mods installed, add-ons working, editing help...whatever, PM me and ill help out best I can, this game has a STEEP learning curve but its not impossible.

heppy1972 - why dont you start by reading all your last threads you started! they are all the same and
one rule we have here is "no duplicate" threads! you have gone against the rules and now think the admin
is in the wrong, in fact its you who is wrong and now complaining to him locking your thread because you
have a duplicate one is stupid! just use the one thread which you opened in the first place and you will
get the help you need in time, stop being impatient and wait for it.

How the hell can you not install a mod anyway? its so easy and there are loads of threads by other newbies
asking the same thing which has been answered many times over. Why dont you start off here and then if your
still having problems after that USE this thread to go by. Try to post from a - z from what your doing and
people will then be able to help you more.

If your using steam then use this tutorial.

Edit:

@Ap0c Let this be a warning to you, THIS forum is not what your saying! all we ask for is
a little bit more in return for our help. That means posting in the correct section and going
by our simple rules, IF you however do not like that, then you know where to go, no need to
stay around here.

2nd Edit:

Funny this is Ap0c - looking through your threads/posts to see how you yourself have never been
helped on our forums, seems you have always been helped and well over the limit in some
cases, even Foxhound himself helped you here. Not so chewed up now hey?

1st - Check The Rules! 2nd - Use The Search!

Searching is as simple as starting a thread, as your pretty much inputting the exact same question in both places. I would carry on with what Foxhound and DarkXess have stated but I think that would be more off-putting for you to merge into our community.

Be all and end all of the installing mods is (and in fact they aren't actually installed)
  1. Find the mod you like, download the mod.
  2. Unpack the mod using tools such as 7zip winrar etc.
  3. Go into you ArmA 2 directory where all files needed to run the game can be found. Make a folder inside there (named after whatever mod you downloaded), then inside that folder make another named addons.
  4. From the unpacked files you should remove the .pbo and .bisign files and add them to your new modfolder within the directory. Inside the addons folder to be exact (Skip step 3 if the mod you downloaded already has this 'modfolder' set up).
  5. My advice would to be to download an ArmA 2 Launcher, this is the one I use, you just find the mod via the launcher and start game simple as that, there is another route regarding editing the target line of your shortcut but this is inferiror to using a launcher imo.

I checked out the MP servers and I see people on them, do I just join them? I am thinking they are friends and why is this guy coming in...

Regarding this, all servers that are not locked are public therefore you are allowed to join them, when I joined my first server I was a complete noob, I even shot someone who spawned on a flag behind me, he was a friendly. I soon became friends with that person and joined the clan he was in, that was over three years ago now and I have made many many friends since then, so just jump in, introduce yourself and play well. :-)

WOW Foxhound... So you are a super admin, and your way of helping someone out is to direct them to the "SEARCH" page, and tell me to search a little bit... Seems strange for a super admin to do that.

Not to toot his horn, but this Super Admin happens to be the owner and founder of this site, when you've seen the same question posted for over six years you would get tired of reading it over and over again, don't you think? What he asked you to do was no big feat, and is simple as clicking your mouse and typing a few words.

As DarkXess stated most if not all your other threads were the same question (I don't know as I do not wish to check).

Your last paragraph I whole heartedly agree with and we all started off as a newbie here at Armaholic, I had some of my own threads locked and a stern telling off by fox when I first joined :-D. But what your saying there I cannot fathom since it doesn't read that way, Foxhound simply gave you steps to follow so you learnt yourself.

There is an old saying: "Give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime", that is exactly what Foxhound was doing for you.

Welcome to Armaholic :-)
