PMC Versus coop mission pack 2: Thirsk Operations

by
Fuiba

Description:
This mission pack contains 7 missions, all playable in SP or MP Coop with the maximum of 5 players. The events take place in the summer of 2002, rougly two years after the Belarussian private military company Versus' campaign on Chernarus. PMC Versus has been struggling without an employer until a Finnish business man, Mr. Hirvi, offers the company an assignment...

Mission content:

Installation:
Extract the .pbo file(s) to your ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\MPMissions folder for multiplayer/coop or to ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\Missions folder for singleplayer.

Notes:
The missions require ACE and the beautiful Thirsk island. PMC DLC is recommended since the missions contain small amounts of PMC content.
Check out PMC Versus Chernarus mission pack which is also playable in MP Coop and SP.

Changelog:

Credits & Thanks:
Thanks to Mr. Murray for the Arma Editing Guide, Armaholic community for support, Sander's missions packs for great inspiration and awesome missions and special thanks to the Thirsk team! Also, thanks to the ACE team for making Arma what it should have been from the beginning.

Hi Variable!

It really makes no difference which "campaign" you complete first. The missions are quite different in Thirsk Operations since there's really no military presence on the island and in these missions you play the roles of PMC operators or bodyguards rather than soldiers. You'll be mostly fighting with paramilitary forces and light weapons. So, Thirsk Operations is really about CQB, quick action and light weapons as opposed to Chernarussian campaign's long distances, heavy equipment and warfare.

Thirsk operations have usually more objectives than the Chernarussian ones but the missions are pretty quick. I also don't plan on adding more missions to this pack since its really just a quick week-long visit to Finland :) There are some references to the Chernarus operations but nothing contiguos in terms of a story.

On retrospective, I should have limited the number of missions in the Chernarussian campaign because now there's some weaker missions among the good ones.

Here are the translations for the operation names, though you might be interested:

Imperium Invisitatum = Unseen Empire
Archipirata = Pirate Chief
Pro Pecunia = For Money
Flagellum Finlandiae = Scourge of Finland
Lex Talionis = Law of Retaliation
Caveat Emptor = Buyer Beware
Iugulatus = Cut-throat

Hey Fuiba! Gave the first mission a quick run through, playing the first ~2 minutes of it, just to get an impression.
First of all, I really look forward to playing the pack, I'm already immersed :) the Thirsk environment is just perfect for PMC Versus operations!

Imperium Invisitatum:
There seem to be morphine missing from the inventory?
the land mines on the road detonate but the explosion sound is multiplied sometimes endlessly (tested three times, at one try it seemed to multiply just several times).

Few general recommendations:
I highly recommend including hyper-links to map locations also on the "Tasks" briefing item. For some reason most of the mission makers neglect to include the map links on that part, and it would be very nice to "walk-through" the mission locations through this useful briefing item.
It would be very convenient if each team-member will have medical equipment in his gear by default. Something like three bandages, three epinephrine and two morphine (this will leave one slot for a sidearm clip, I guess that's enough for most players...)

Looking forward to playing these missions!

Hi Variable and thanks again for the feedback!

Medical items in the inventory by default: will be included in the next update :) There's a total of 8 slots for medical items and sidearm clips. When I've playtested Thirsk missions I have a lot of times resorted to using my sidearm. For example finishing off wounded enemies which will otherwise get back up and start shooting again. Would you guys be happy for 2 bandages, 2 morphine and 2 epinephrine and 2 clips? Of course there's also the option to change the loadouts at start. I also plan on putting more medical supplies to the PMC Versus SUVs.

Land mines in Imperium Invisitatum: I don't know what's causing the sound problem, mine works as it should. The mines are actually placed on the road manually, there are no scripts involved. I guess I could remove them, they're not mission critical.

I'm not really sure what you mean by hyperlinks in "Tasks". The mission objectives are made as hyperlinks by default, you just have to double click the lines. For example, in operation Imperium Invisitatum, if you double click "Secure the first site" in "Tasks" the map centers at the first lumber mill.

Expect an update soon!

This medical load-out will be great.

Actually I think they are a nice touch, and even with this bug they are something that adds to the mission.

Man, I've been playing this game extensively since its release and I didn't know that! :)
