Hey Guys,
I just discovered ArmA 2 and I really want it. I mean BAD. but, i got quite a few questions that i would like answered that would help alot.

1. I know i need ArmA 2. Do i need Operation Arrowhead to be able to mod, or and special software to be able to mod?

2. Speaking of mods, ive found a couple that i was interested in. But first:
A. How do i install mods? Back to the whole software thing, what exactly do i need?
B. I saw a video for DayZ mod. Can i get that here?
C. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-JGmkDfiuQI
What mod do these trucks come in? I want to be able to download them if i can.
D. I saw that there was a fire station in the video. Is that a download too or is it something i cant have?
E. Any cool mods or weapons/vehicle packs anyone could reccomend?

3. Now that ive covered Mods, is there a Map Editor that i can download where i can build my own stuff? (Ie. spawn vehicles, weapons, buildings, map pieces, etc.) i want to be able to build military bases and stuff like that, just on my own.

4. Most of the videos i have seen are people playing online. Can i play my mods offline? As in just me in a world in DayZ?

i dont mean to be an idiot or a noob or anything, but i would really appreciate the help. Thank alot guys!

> I recommend you to purchase Combined Operations, which covers ArmA 2, the Standalone Expansion Operation arrowhead, aswell as BAF and PMC.
A2 is a scenario of USMC & a Russian Themed Army named CDF (Chenarussian Defense Forces) to defent their Country (Chenarus) against the Chedakis (NAPA), and Russians. It comes with two islands, Chenarus and Utes, which are fall-Themed russian countryside areas with a few towns, buildings, and coastlines.
OA takes place in takistan, a fictional desert state resemblign Afghanistan. Its US Army vs. takistany Army & takistany Insurgents, there is also a Urban Map, Zagrabad.
BAF (british armed forces) drops the British Army in the mix, whereas PMC drops in two new maps, and a Private Military company with experimental weapon and SUV's rather than jeeps, and tanks.

You can mod any of these games, but to experience the full arma-experience, get both. To mod by yourself, there are a verity of tool sout there which can be found in tutorials, or on the BIS Wiki, all freeware (ofc, there are some paywares, too, but not neccesary). To USE mods, you do not need any software.

2. Speaking of mods, ive found a couple that i was interested in. But first:
A. How do i install mods? Back to the whole software thing, what exactly do i need?

You can downlaod a launcher which manages you rmods with one click, or use command line parameters. Mods are .pbo and .bisign files that are palced in your Arma2-folder/@nameOfTheMod/AddOns, or directly in ArmA2Folder/AddOns

B. I saw a video for DayZ mod. Can i get that here?

There are many downlaods for the DayZ mod, here, and on dayz.com e.g.

C. What mod do these trucks come in? I want to be able to download them if i can.

There are so many mods, i can't tell you. You might want to start a search on armaholic (download button in the header) or search for ArmA 2 Firetruck mods or something likewise.

D. I saw that there was a fire station in the video. Is that a download too or is it something i cant have?

Most likely a building, coming with the mod.

E. Any cool mods or weapons/vehicle packs anyone could reccomend?

There are douzends of them. Just look through what we have on Armaholic, and theres also a addon section in the forum. from total conversions like VTE, DayZ or Hell in the pacific, to expansion paks such as NavySeals or Rh weapons packs up to realism modules such as ACE, you can have anything.

3. Now that ive covered Mods, is there a Map Editor that i can download where i can build my own stuff? (Ie. spawn vehicles, weapons, buildings, map pieces, etc.) i want to be able to build military bases and stuff like that, just on my own.

Yes, ArmA 2 comes with an own editor which is indeed quit epowerfull and you might design your own missions like it, There CAN! (not must) be some scripting involved, but it sgenerally quite easy to learn the basics.

4. Most of the videos i have seen are people playing online. Can i play my mods offline? As in just me in a world in DayZ?

Any mod can be used offline, some of them in the campaign, some, like soldier skins, weapons and vehicles, if you place them in the map editor. You can also run a dayZ server lcoally if you wish, and you might even decide which map to use, on your own (its not limited to chenarus, many custom islands support it by niw, e.g. Lingo, Pordagorsk, Namalsk)

Arma 2 Combined Operations is ArmA 2 and ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead, so both the base game and the standalone expension. It's what you want. :)

When you download them they'll be two separate installs, just install them both to the same folder, say C:\CO

Then you'll use ArmA 2 OA to run the game.

I wouldn't bother with mods -or the editor for that matter- until you have the default game mechanics down pat.

Everything will be so much easier after that.
