Alrighty, so I have REALLY bad performance issues with Arma so when I'm playing with my decently sized group with alot of ai on the map in our op, my fps can drop to about 9 or so. At first I thought it was just Arma being Arma but then I talked to a few of the other members and discovered that a lot of them have worse specs than me and get about 20fps better than me. So, I'm here to find out if any of you guys might know of any solutions? I will post all specs and other useful information below:
    My main specifications are:
AMD Phenom II x4 Black edition overclocked at 3.8ghz
    Gigabyte Nvidia GTX670 OC 4GB DDR5 PCI-E Graphics Card
    8gb RAM
I run Arma on 1920 x 1080 res
My video settings make no difference to the fps in these missions.
Arma is also installed on an external drive, it only has about 20gb/500gb remaining.
My C disk is 250gb and only has about 40gb remaining. ( I have alot of games on my pc, on both drives)
Arma 2/oa is installed through steam
Thanks for reading! *THUMBS UP*

why is it that You say "My video settings Make NO difference in these missions"?
Listing all of your settings would be a good idea.
Simply because MANY different settings in Arma, although limited in their effect on performance, CAN as a whole reflect greatly on your performance in game.
Also ANY launch parameters you MAY or MAY not use wouldn't hurt either.

But if your asking from what you've posted, All I , or anyone can Do is guess at what the problem COULD be.
Which is nothing more than a waste of time, Since Your VERY likely Smart enough to have ruled out ANYTHING that a person here might suggest.

Post your settings in detail, I get pretty good FPS with a system that is definitely NOT better than your's, and thats while I record. So I'm certain that a resolution could be arrived at with a little trial and error.

Short of ANY real details of the specifics, I would say, that it's your HDD. But, Launch parameters CAN help.
Maxmem, exthreads, MaxVram, cpuCount,WILL make a difference.
Not to mention, that in game settings like Memory detection DO have a bearing on Server based games. Your Veiw distance may be limited by the server, but, For example, HD 69xx GPU's , used to have a REAL problem with memory detection and Arma. SOME 69xx owners would get great performance using the "very high" memory detection setting in game, but after changing it to the "default" setting, would suddenly experience a HUGE FPS drop. Food for thought.

And yes I know You a running a GTX, I am just making a point is all.

I improved it now. My external drive was the problem. I have better fps now, but still a bit worse than it should be. My video settings are currently:
Texture Detail: High
Video Memory: Default
Anisotropic Filtering : Very High
Anti aliasing: Low
ATOC: Disabled
Terrain Detail: Very High
Object Detail : Very low (I don't like a lot of grass, plus this one destroys my fps)
Shadow Detail : Normal
HDR Detail : Normal
PPAA : SMAA Very High
Postprocess effects : Disabled
VSync : Disabled
Aspect Ratio : Custom
