Helmet Mounted IR Strobe A3

Description:

This addon gives the player the ability to turn on and off a helmet mounted IR strobe if they are wearing a supported helmet and it is night time. Supported helmets are any of the default helmets currently in the game that have an IR strobe attached to the top.

Usage:
Only use one of the included .pbo files. Use of both with cause confliction and errors.

CJTF_IRstrobeA3:
The option to turn on the IR Strobe is only available between Dusk and Dawn and only if you are wearing a supported helmet. If both of the above condition are met the option to use the IR Strobe will be added to your action menu. Use the scroll wheel or [ and ] to open the action menu by default. Select the option “IR Strobe On” to enable then “IR Strobe Off” to disable. The strobe will be deactivated upon entering a vehicle and will need to be turned on again after exiting.
Supported Helmets: All NATO helmets that have an IR strobe modeled on them. All aircraft helmets for all factions. Armored crew helmets for NATO and CSAT. Both CSAT Assassin helmets.

CJTF_IRnohelmA3:
You will receive the option to use the IR strobe between Dusk and Dawn with any headgear.

Notes:
This addon is signed and runs client side. This addon is an updated version of my ArmA 2 addon Helmet Mounted IR Strobe. It does not attach an IR strobe model to the helmet only the blinking strobe effect, and it does not require an IR strobe to be in the players inventory. Members of CJTF and MTF have been using it for a few weeks with no reported issues. Please let me know if any are found and I will attempt to address them as soon as possible.

Great job been waiting awhile for this type of mod. From the video it does seem to be bright. Any was to lower the intensity in relation to the viewing distance. Aka the closer you are the less intense the strobe effect will be. Also do these show up on Flir( thermal)?

The strobe effect used in this addon is the default ArmA 3 IR strobe and has the same brightness. I’m not sure if there is a way to alter the intensity. They do not show up in FLIR as they are just IR strobes. There are thermal strobes, beacons, and tape in use by military personnel, they just aren’t modeled in the game at this time. Hopefully down the road BI will add them or another modder will be able to.

Hi!
Nice work with this mod.
Anyway, while testing it out for my community i found out that while using the splendid camera a bug would occur, maybe you want to investigate into it and make it work with the FLIR too:

Basically the strobe in splendid camera would work with the NVG "down" disregard of whether it's in Night vision, normal vision, flir, or whatever.
Good job anyway. :)

Thanks for the heads up Chairborne. I will look into it when I get the time and hopefully be able to duplicate the strobe working in white hot all the time. It may just be a bug with using the splendid camera but hopefully not.

Hello,

For starters great mod, it is a great addition to A3 but I would like to report a bug. Everytime I change to helmets that do not have IR I get a script error that never leaves the screen. If this gets fixed or if I need to do somethign to fix it let me know, it would make a great addition to my unit.

Hello Diesel5187 and thanks for your bug report. Since you are the first to report this issue and I am unable to duplicate it I will need some more information before I can attempt to correct it for you. First is the strobe on or off when you change helmet and get the error? Also is the helmet you are attempting to change to a default ArmA 3 helmet or one form an addon pack? If you could please temporarily disable all other mods except for mine and do a quick test to see if the error still occurs that would reveal if it is a conflict with another addon. If it turns out to be a conflict with another mod, enable them one by one until you locate the right one and let me know. I will do my best to sort out the issue for you.

I tested with just A3, CBA, and your IR Strobe, I am still getting the error.

I went in the editor, spawned a Heli Pilot, made it night time. If it is day time the error goes away, but at nighttime the error is consistent and never leaves.

The error goes away if I use a helmet with an IR Strobe, ECH for example and the strobe does work.

Attempts at a fix:

1. Verified game cache
2. Re-downloaded IRStrobe
3. Re-downloaded CBA
4. Booting through A3Sync and made sure the only 2 mods being used were CBA & IR Strobe.

I downloaded the latest version of CBA and my addon from armaholic and following your same steps in the editor I am still unable to duplicate your issue. I do not have or use A3Sync. Being an old dog I still control my mods though target line. I will get A3Sync though and do some more testing. In the meantime I have two more questions that may assist me.

The version of Arma 3 I am running is 1.08.113494. Are you using the same or a dev patch? Also are you getting my addon from Foxhounds link above or another location?

Update: Just finished checking it using A3Sync, still unable to duplicate. Once you get back to me with the answers from the above I can go from there.

I had that very same "bug" when testing this out a few days ago.
Whenever your unit has a different helmet from the standard US infantry ones (ECH/ECH light) it keeps spamming this error.
Try placing a standard opfor rifleman or AAF rifleman as player and you should get it.
I thought it was due to the fact that as you wrote in OP it is meant to be used only on helmets with a strobe "mounted" (present in the 3d model i guess?) so it was a "feature", not a proper bug.
It would be better if you could use it on any type of helmet though, as of now the only reason my community is not going to use this is because we tend to play with different units from time to time.

Hey Chairborn, are you using ArmA 3 sync? After doing some trouble shooting with Diesel5187 we ascertained that the error message he was receiving was being caused by a confliction with A3 Sync. The addon is design be used only with helmets that have an IR strobe modeled on them, but it shouldn’t be giving errors when you don’t have one. Please let me know if your error is being caused by a confliction with A3 sync or another addon. To test simply start the game through the default exe with only my addon and CBA running. I appreciate you assistance in this matter as I am unable to duplicate the error on my end.
