I have done some missions before but I have never been using other scripts and codes than those you put in to the units init line. Now I would like to make a mission with a briefing and some other fancy things, such as identities on the players.
Since I'm a newbie I'd be glad if someone could tell me about the basics when you start with this kind of mission making.
I've been trying to do briefings before, but I have failed since I don't know anything about the description and all other files you need to have in the mission folder.
I know that you will laugh when you read this post, but please help me :)

No one will laugh cause that would make him look like an idiot. We all were at that point once and had to learn step by step. :-)

I could sit down and add comments to my "mission basic pack" which has briefing and tasks using Shuko's taskmaster script and a description.ext with basic settings as well as some other scripts like mission ending.

Just would take some time to add comments to everything so you understand the gibberish.

I'd start with learning the basic controls of the editor, you can do most things you want within the editor itself:

https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Mission_Editor

Then I'd started looking at how people have done things in missions you have joined / downloaded / played to give you an idea of what can be done:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM8jWlWlNwg&list=PLDuFcVmU4yHbRJTLQuEFZnBbvZFlC1_AE&feature=c4-overview-vl

From there Google is your best bet, most questions have been asked in the past and you can find tones of cool scripts and stuff for your missions.

Finally here is a mission template I use for my own missions if I am just wanting to make a quick mission:
