Manalo are 3 fictional islands set in an arctic region, with mountainous terrain and wide forests. This is my first addon that I have created and would greatly appreciate any feedback to help improve this map. Currently 1-2 weeks in development.

You can not use html on the site. You should remove the html and replace it with bbcode.

hey man, looking good considering time spent on it :) maybe you could re texture the trees to have some snow on them to blend a bit better, same goes for the houses. might require some deeper coding but might be possible, not sure. or maybe find a building and vegetation pack with arctic assets. i love the fact that you are making a snow map!

good job

hey thanks for the kind words, means a lot :) I have indeed made some snowy assets (trees etc), but I am having quite a few issues trying to get them in game, but hopefully they will be in future updates!

This looks interesting. Two things, though...

First, the one thing that immediately came to mind as I watched the video was the runway...that thing has *zero* margin for error in either take-offs or landings. I also imagine it'd be a pain in the butt to have to try and turn around. For example, after landing to rearm/refuel/repair, where is there room to turn the plane back down the runway again for take-off?

Second, the forum link at the bottom of the download page (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=27397) is broken/invalid. I was able to get here by going back to the news post on the front page but you may want to correct that.

Otherwise, this looks like an interesting terrain and I wish you the best of luck with it. Thanks for sharing it with the community!

Thanks for the feedback, the runway is a little tight yes, but I tried to make it longer so if you are a competent pilot you can land halfway down the strip, and there is some room behind the runway (not seen in video) where you can turn to take off. The idea is that it is a military runway and so is very tight and meant to be precise. (Given it is surrounded by forest) but I will adjust the layout so there are places to refuel etc. And for the downloads I'll have a look but I did not set them up myself :P But thank you for the feedback!

EDIT: The second download link should work, it did for me at least.

Okay, I guess I missed the extra runway area in the video. I figured it was a work-in-progress anyhow so there's always gonna be changes.

As for the page I linked, the download links aren't the problem. It's the "Forum Topic" link above the download links but below the "Changelog" section. If that's not something that you can edit, you may want to ping an admin to see if they can edit it to ensure a valid link to this forum thread and/or any BI forum thread for the terrain.

Anyhow, just figured I'd offer an unsolicited opinion. Everyone always loves those, right?! ;)

I wonder if it would be possible to put a good deal of snow on the trees, that would make them fit much better in here (maybe just a different texture is enough, but maybe some thick blobs of snow on the branches need to be in 3D). And you need to add a whole bunch of scrub and underwood to the forests to make them more realistic. Probably have to define some clutter texture brushes. No problem yet in alpha stage, but it should look different in the final ;)

Also a different sky and maybe some tweaks to the water could make it look more like the lead tone found in northers areas and less mediterranean.

Some normal map fiddling could turn the flat snow plains into something more interesting, you could put in animal trails (from birds, rabbits, deers), and I think some small hills and overall "noise" in the flatness would make it appear less artificial.

Just some idea, no clue whether you can make this, or whether that are good ideas at all ;)

Nice to see someone trying something different, well done.

Okay, here's my feedback.
1. ambient sound need changing, cicalii (that chirruping insect noise) do not live in those conditions! Even here in Italy we only hear them when it's really hot between June and August, so that's a big immersion breaker right there.
2. flora, the stock Mediterranean flora looks really out of place, especially the oleandri (oleander bushes?)but also the pines, which are a southern variety.
3. The look of the sky is what we see here in southern Italy when it's hot. It's not a winter sky.
4. Architecture is typically southern European, and once again looks out of place.

So, from the point of view of someone who lives in a Mediterranean environment this landscape doesn't convince me, because I see snow combined with southern European architecture, vegetation, lighting and sounds.
If you want to make your project more convincing those are the points that I'd concentrate on.

Good luck, buon lavoro, Gatto :-)

P.S. I really like the look of the airfield, well done.
