I have run into a problem (probably because of addons I installed) which gives me the following error message: "No entry 'bin\config.bin/cfgVoice.male12ENG'". Although this does not prevent the game from running, it does prevent the PREVIEW function in the editor from working. Highly frustrating, to say the least.

After some searching in the Config Viewer, I suspect I found the culprit under: CfgVoiceTypes/Male12_F - This contains the following:
alternative = "";
name = "";
preview = "Male12ENG";
voices[] = {"Male12ENG","Male02GRE","Male03PER"};

The line: name = ""; seems to be in error, and should read: name = "Type 12"; since the others do contain this corresponding "Type XX" in that position.

How do I get "Type 12" inserted into the config.file?

Des-install the addon. You're not supposed to edit a config.bin. Even if, you can't modify it without author agreement.

Yes,Pierre MGI, I tried that - removed ALL addons - no joy.

The config.bin is edited at will by mission designers. There are a few vague tutorials on the subject but they assume me to know more about it than I actually do (I'm pretty new at editing missions but making good progress).

All I really need is someone who can assist me with the use of these editors.

You can't actually edit the config.bin, but if you want to edit an individual addon's config, you can use unRap from here. Then you'd need to pack the pbo back again which goes in to the field of addon making, I'm sure you can find lots of resources for that.

Sometimes I like to think as I started the whole "earplugs" thing.

W0lle: The only advice I can give you is: Do not try to understand BI. You will not succeed and it only makes your brain go boom. I would even go so far and say that not even they understand their own actions :-D.
