Hello!

I'm an old flashpoint player and well I decided to modernize a bit and decided to buy ArmA 2, however I really find this lacks of addons compared to Operation Flashpoint CWC.

So I am seeking some advice on this; How should I start making addons for ArmA 2? Currenlty, my plan is to make a mod of the armed forces of Chile, basically just a faction with infanty units of my country. So I was thinking about some simple texturing, and using the FAL rifles from Takistan Forces, but I do not know where to start.

I have searched tons of guides and such but they all guide me to how to use BITools and such, but that is not what I am trying to learn. I have experience with Blender in modeling and texturing, also I began animating few weeks ago.

So, the final question is, What is the path I have to take to begin doing ArmA 2 addons? (I am planning to do a basic infantry soldier unit for now, I know how to work with the config file, but I need help getting the ArmA 2 models to retexture them and some other experienced advice).

Firstly, dig around in the arma 2 files for your uniform you want to retexture. Extract it, open it up on photoshop. Do what you need to do. Most gear should be in the characters.pbo within the addons folder in Arma 2.

Then you need to create your config.cpp/.bin which you say you know how to already?

p.s. why didn't you get arma 3? just curious..

Hello BroBeans! I have opened them in GIMP and I have edited their camouflages, but now I was wondering if there is a way to edit their helmet shape, because the chilean soldier helmet is way different from the US soldier in ArmA 2, any program for it? Or can I use it with Blender?

And I'm living in Chile, my dad is not willing to buy on the internet, and ArmA isn't even on the stores here, and a friend who came from the United States long time ago, had a DVD of ArmA 2 and I asked him if he was willing to sell it, he said yes and I got it for few cash.

You can't exactly edit the helmet shape, you'd basically have to start from scratch as the Arma 2 models are encrypted.

ahh thats cool .. Awesome to see such diversity :-)
