Whenever I try and install the Fallujah map I also have to download loads of crapware. PDF reader, My PC Backup and One Systemcare. I thought I only required 7 zip? I am then still unable to unpackage the map as 'the archive may be damaged'. I thought this was a well respected Arma site? I now have to run MalwareBytes every time I visit or download from Armaholic.

Blaming us is of course a possibility but without you providing me clear proof our hosted file cause your issues I will not even remotely take this post serious.

Yes, we are a respected website, your one post out of a few hundred thousand which is posted without proof and only claims something without anyone being able to check your statement will not change that at all.

I will give you some time to update your post/topic and add additional info about the issues you describe. When I get back (in a few hours) and see you have not done that I will simply assume you are a troll and trolls belong in the ground.

Thanks for the kind reply.

I apologise for the frustrated tone but I have had to uninstall the aforementioned crapware twice now. I was trying to download and install the Fallujah map by Shezan74. When I try and unpack with z opener I am prompted with the need to download a PDF reader that I don't need. When I submit to the download I also find that I have downloaded One System Care and My PC Backup which is categorised as PUP by Malwarebytes.

I am asking for help to install the Fallujah map. Whenever I try and download either the 1.0 or 1.23 file I am told 'the archive may be damaged'. I then realise that I have unwittingly downloaded PUP software. I have tried downloading from 'Armoholic' at:

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12315

And also at:

http://www.arma2base.de/include.php?path=download&contentid=2777

I am not a troll. I admit I am finding it difficult and complex to install and enjoy the fantastic array of mods for Arma 2. I rate the Arma & Operation Flashpoint series above and beyond all other pretenders. Over a decade since I was first awestruck by CWC. I have been out of the game for a while and am finding it hard to keep up.

Again I apologise for my glaring ineptitude.

I completely understand your frustration, really I do as malware and all that crap is the worst we have on the web these days.

But I hope you understand me, I am protecting my hard work and I can assure you (although like anything there is never 100%) I am 99,9999999999% sure we do not host malware and where we do see something we always add an installation note and/or warning where we inform the user we saw some behaviour and installation is always upon your own risk.

But, onto your issue, let me quote this:

with z opener

Did you install that program? If so, by the name of it I can guarantee you that is the issue.
Only download from here: http://www.7-zip.org/

Any other site and or program you use (winrar is also safe) might result in you getting stuff you do not want.

Z-opener is displayed as the default zip file opener whenever I open the Fallujah file. I have 7zip installed previously via Microsoft Store. When I download the map file I have only two options. Save to folder or cancel via z-opener.I am also told that I am missing essential software such as a PDF reader which I already have adequately installed alternative.

When I try to unpack Fallujah 1.0 or 1.23 to Arma 2: addons folder via z-opener I am told 'the archive may be damaged'.

I admire your hard work and do not doubt your efforts to combat malware.

Sorry for the delay but Sunderland scored twice a short while ago and bolstered the morale of Northern England.

I reiterate that when I download maps, scenarios missions etc. from Armaholic I am instructed by default to use 'Z-opener'. As you say this could be the problem.

The bold typeface is an error.

Regards

As I wrote, get rid of z-opener and download 7z from the link I provided.
If you do not feel like following my advice you will continue to have issues and I will not help you further.

Remove all crap software which you downloaded to open archives. Scan your computer with malwarebytes for example (and please....read some proper anti malware forums before just installing whatever tool other sites tell you to download)
https://forums.malwarebytes.org/

Clean your PC properly, scan for virusses and install 7z, nothing else!

Received. I have just uninstalled z-opener. Stupidly confused 7-zip with Z-opener. I wrongly thought that the Fallujah file was stipulating I install Z-opener when the invidious software was already on my PC and actually hijacking my compressed file functions. Please accept my full and frank apologies Foxhound. Armaholic is a great resource and long may it live.

I am glad to read you reso;ved the issue now and are no longer under the impression we cause any malware issues to our website users and visitors.

Like I said, I can not guarantee 100% but you can be sure we do everything we can to prevent any issues.
Not to mention that a normal addon (with pbo's) cant contain any malicous stuff. Only additional files like dll's, exe files and some other formats can be dangerous. But that map release does not contain any such file so I was 100% sure it was not the archive that was the issue :-)

Still can't get the Fallujah map to work. UI saying 'dependant on content that has been deleted'. Frankly don't think Arma is about CQB but getting Fallujah to work has become quite the pet project. Any help would be most magic.

Apparently I have deleted Fallujah 1.0 which seems crucial to 1.23. However I am unable to locate 1.0 in any form that can supplement 1.23. WTF?
