I have just reinstalled Arma 2 (again) and cannot find a way to create a Combined Operations shortcut for the desktop. I have DVD installations for Arma 2, OA and Reinforcments (only installed BAF and PMC as advised) and have installed all as per instructions at:

http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=20552

I am patched up to 1.62 and have only reinstalled to make mods run smoothly within a separate folder. Is the problem the hard copy DVD install and should I just bite the bullet and buy Arma 2 CO (again) from Steam?

Really frustrated by the needless complexity of all this.

I have installed the launcher but having trouble setting the parameters you have circled in blue.

I have also been referring to this tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUBmuKK8isA&app=desktop

Frankly non the wiser. Do I need to install all the following tools/programs;

Arma 2 Launcher
Winrar (requires me to pay)
7zip
Six updater (constantly tells me to use the new version.

Also are all mods/addons treated/installed the same. Are missions and maps installed the same as units and vehicles? For example I can play all the Thomsonb dynamic missions except those that call for additional maps (eg Fallujah). When I try and install the Fallujah mission and map I am told this is not possible because of previously deleted content.

Really appreciate the help.

You do not need any of those programs.
Read this and use Steam: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/184856-you-can-install-arma-2-operation-arrowhead-on-steam-with-a-cd/#entry2922651

Arma 2 Launcher - optional, you can use Steam as well (with a DVD version, simply activate the key)
Winrar (requires me to pay) - optional, it is free, you can simply close the message asking you to pay and you can keep using it for years
7zip - optional, I prefer it over winrar
Six updater (constantly tells me to use the new version. - outdated

Ok Foxhound. Thanks for the link. How do I activate a Steam Key from a DVD install? I have installed via DVD (Arma 2, OA and Reinforcements) up to 1.62. Are mods only practical with a Steam folder?

I have reinstalled correctly (previously omitted to apply the 1.50 to 1.60 patch)and managed to get CO back.

I have spent so much time on this. I am determined to get this cracked.

I will study the link. Thanks for the help (again).

Frankly pissed off that I have to convert my Arma 2 to a Steam install. I genuinely purchased Arma 2/OA/Reinforcements on disc (at greater cost than through steam) and modding should be available to all buyers of this game regardless of format. I am very angry about this and BI should be ashamed.

Added 12 minutes later:

Another fucking reinstall. There is a fine line between exclusive recruitment and needless complexity. Sometimes its just called taking the piss.

Hi, Craig, I also purchase and use the retail version, I do not like steam.
To use Arma Combined Operations, you have to install the DVD, Arma2 and Arma OA, in the same destination folder, for example; C:\Bohemia\Arma2co\

When the installation of ArmA2 and ArmA OA, ask you specify the installation path, use it, as the example cited above.

1 install ArmA2
2 install ArmA OA
3 install the --->Updates you want, example, upgrade to version 1.60 and then to 1.62 and finally the last --->Beta Patch ARMA2_OA_Build_112555

Now you install this --->Launcher, use this, from my point of view is the best, and configure the path of the executable for each version of ArmA, as shown in that image.

Launcher Tutorial --->VIDEO TUTORIAL

Let me know if it worked for you.

Regards

Many thanks Dalber24. I will try the install as directed when I get some time. I just bought Arma 3 in the Steam Summer Sale so giving this a go at the moment. Still not sure if I prefer Arma 3 to Arma 2. I also bought Kerbal Space Program which is becoming a a real time sink. Strangely addictive. I appreciate your help.
