Usually when you download the addons there will be a readme or instructions on the download page as to where to find the units ingame.

Maybe you didn't install the addons correctly. Ok, well you put the PBO files inthe addons folder or a mod folder (recomended). When you extracted into the addons folder you put the PBO files from the folder you extracted (if you extracted a folder) in the addons folder and moved them in the addons folder? You really should just read the FAQ and make sure that you're doing everything right, installing addons is a pretty simple task, just take things slowly if you're not sure. The instructions are clear enough and it is not recomended to install addons in the actual main addons folder.

Reasons to use modfolders:
When an error occurs it will take you ages to find all the 3rd party addons and remove them 1 by one finding the error.
When you patch arma it may be corrupted if you have 3rd party addons present in the addons folder.
Mod folders can easily be disabled and re-enabled for whenever you want.
Some servers don't allow some addons, others require a select few, meaning that you select a mod folder for a certain server you might want to play on.

i dont see the need of uninstalling the game and installing it again, i just remove the SLX pbo's from AddOns and the game works again.

fun fact: you get peace by war, you get war by peace

The SLX mod is meant to be run in a mod folder, that is the reason why it doesn't work in the addons folder, as blackhawk stated before. If you experience the same symptoms as Kingaung when you install SLX then I can only suggest that kingaung removes the SLX files from his addons folder if he installed it.

I know you are a new member, this is why I can't stress enough that you take the time to set up a modfolder and read through the FAQ on how to install and launch addons. To me it seems that you have already broken your game by messing around with things in the main addons folder. I don't know. If you gave a detailed explanation on what you actually did, maybe some of us could do something to help. Simply saying "My game is messed up, help me" no one will help because they can't. Anyway, as Blackhawk said it is most likely that you have messed up the addons folder. So you will have to reinstall the game.
Uninstall it from the add/remove programs list or on the allprograms list under start.
You will then have to delete this folder manually:
C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA
Then reinstall.
It's the only thing that I cant reccoment and that you then Patch to the latest 1.14 and check again on how to install addons.

Hi Everyone,

Liking the site! Just installed Arma and really want to take advantage of this great community.

Ok, I understand how to install the addons within custom made folders. However will the 'addons' within the primary addons folder become redundant if I use my custom folders? Hence, will I have to copy and paste those addons into my custom folders for them to work, or do they work as default?

Hope this makes sense!

Davey

p.s. any suggestions for good addons / single player missions? Thanks. :D

:welcome to armaholic.

No, you don't have to copy your addons from the main addon directory into your mod folders. Just think of them as an extended Addon directory in that sense.

well choose whichever addon suits your personality, seeing as your british then the british UK forces addon would be a good choice, followed by the bi soldiers ones to add brit dudes with helmets, lol

Hello, this is my first post here (just created an account)

I have been having trouble installing the yomies basic template mod. I've installed many other mods in my time but this one just confuses me, I installed it into the add ons folder, the missions folder and the templates folder but have had no luck so far. Anybody know where to extract this file lol?

Hi roasted, If you're talking about this: Yomies basic mission template that's not actually an AddOn, it's a mission editor thing.

You'd put that in your editable missions folder, by default C:\Documents and Settings\windowsuser\My Documents\ArmA Other Profiles\ArmAPlayerName\missions\_yomies_basic_template.Intro then open it with the in game editor (since it's a .Intro it'll be based on Rahmadi island) and add things as you want.

To actually use that mission with the zombies in it, you'll need this AddOn: Dawn of the Yomies which you would install as a normal AddOn as detailed earlier in this thread.

So it's perfectly normal that you're not seeing anything new with the file you've been using, because it's a mission template not a source of zombies. :)

Hope this helps and if you have questions, please ask!
