Certain vehicles lack rangefinders (It seems to be more vanilla Arma2 than OA vehicles), and certain vehicles would really benefit from them.

In particular, I've got a mission with controllable AAVs. Their most powerful weapon is the automatic grenade launcher, but it is hard to be effective with that weapon without wasting a lot of ammo "sweeping the elevation", or taking "ranging shots"

Is there any way to add a rangefinder to the gunner position of a vehicle that doesn't already have one?

Sorry, I don't know Arma2 but it seems hard to do.
Any rangefinder is a display. You need to add it. This display (cutRsc) works on each frame.
See result here. Sorry it's embedded in a general video. Go straight to 2min40 and look at the two yellow arrows (one for current zeroing, one for rangefinder distance.

Display is one thing you can "skip" as you can just hint the result.
But, the remaining problem in your case is to find a function/command available in arma2.
Without that, I guess you have to build a class for a modded vehicle based on the basic one.
I don't know all steps you'll have to do for that.

For those interested in a working test on arma3, you can have an idea here.
just copy/paste in a trigger, no condition. You don't need to spawn the code. remove []spawn{}.
Or add 0 = in front of [] spawn {..} in a trigger (need a handle to return nothing).
