i've been afk for 3-4 years.

upon returning, there have been some noticeable changes in pub servers.

- in arma2, "script kiddies" hid in the shadows and trolled. now, we celebrate them as admins, even vote them to position.

- there is now a vanilla revival mechanic, which was much needed, but has shifted pubs away from learning rife squad tactics, use of cover, and basic ROE.

- unlimited arsenals are always expected, meaning 30% of your time is watching kids customize load outs during a mission, instead of in their own time in the VR arsenal.

- global and side chat is a headache inducing nightmare. there use to be a modicum of caution as to which channel you talk in, or an arma vet would chew your ass.

- zeus community specifically, was held with a bit of scrutiny. zeus would practice alone before taking the seat. now kids want to learn how to zeus in a full server, and aren't even slightly embarrassed by it.

my observation:
1.the live stream phenomenon has created carbon copies of young men who have incorporated non stop talking, non stop trolling, non-stop immersion breaking as a part of their everyday experience, and that is fun to them. something i may never understand.

2. Arma has drawn a lot of attention to said crowd with modded type (life, dayz, battle royale)
- i think rapid popularity (steam sales, viral marketing) has forced the vets who were excited about teaching new comers trickling in, to tactical withdraw into the clan servers. this is leaving a bastard generation of new comers, and in my opinion, is very toxic for the community long term.

now, it seem like developers are trying to create spaces for this type of gamer (vr chat, pubg) but the damage is done. milsim is losing the battle, at least in the pub servers. my opinion, only the vets can fix that, not devs.

so i ask, why do i no longer hear vets teaching noobs in the pubs? come back... at least one night a week! show them the way... because i'm exhausted of getting constantly asked in global if i "know the wae". lol

I hear ya - although I'm a 6k+hrs ArmA3 vet and ex-serviceman who's retreated to a gaming group of similar gamers because CoD/BF4 type rambos kind of make my trigger finger itch.

OP, you hit the nail on the head. Agreed about people being voted admins that are irresponsible (in a lot of cases). We formed our own group of like-minded guys, as mentioned. That seems to be the only answer.

Well, and going into certain public servers with your "like minded friends", and wrecking everything and everyone in your path. That helps cleanse the soul, too.
