I want to create a multiplayer game mode in which at the start of a round each side has an objective randomly selected from a pool of objectives exclusive to each side. The purpose of this is to have each side constantly guessing what the true objective of their opponent is. Problem is this is the first mission I've ever created and have essentially zero idea what I'm doing.
So is it possible? and if so are there any resources anyone can recommend to help me figure out how.

I'd probably recommend looking at the code inside things such as Domination, Liberation or other MP game modes and see how they handle their objectives. In theory, it's not hard, start small, maybe 3 objectives for each side and build from there.
