I couldnt resist to see how vbs1 would do on my comp and installed it today.
It doesnt run that much better, more AA and higher texture resolutions but still doesnt perform as well as Arma if i increase view distance and terrain detail.. Arma is smoother and graphically more beautyfull, the new engine is a great improvement in all aspects.

But i must say that i missed vbs1 :eek.
Really, i missed its old school "dirty" graphics, the strong simple colours and textures, the grey shaved heads of the grunts, the dramatic, coulor rich orange sunsets..

(Sometimes i think the more graphic intensive games put more strain on the eyes and get me tired faster.)

I missed my F89 lmg, the sasr desert ops and custom looking units, the M4A1 ACOG that shoots straight... the elcans, the animals and the barren deserts and third world country shit hole villages.

I know this isnt really related to vbs2 or Arma but...

Those were the days :(
I miss it too. I have VBS1 installed since I have my new comp, I played it for a little while to test it. For me it ran better than on the old system offcourse but indeed, getting the same results as with arma is impossible I think.

I know RE is still playing it in MP, also SimHQ. So if you ever need a game you can contact those people ;)

Niop, the few remaining VBS1 users are split by diferent official modules and "exclusive" addon packs plus pings above 100ms are no good.
The funny thing is i still feel like editing vbs1, the damn thing fills my brain with mission ideas.
Ranger airfield assault, SASR training camp hunt in afghanistan, etc.

Arma doesnt give me that much inspiration..

@Heatseeker and Foxy-We have all modules and play with non RE members quite alot, this is something we like doing as to keep the MP community of VBS1 active,we can have anything up to 15-16 players running all sorts of missions,we find the missions to suit the players so we can all play, which is pretty good,
So your both more than welcome to join us for some good battles:D
P.S VBS1 still kicks arse, will always play that for sure:yes
Heres a couple of screenshots of an up and coming VBS2 mission of mine,Operation Venom Strike
Heres 7 of us(can only see a few) fighting our way out of an ambush

Here we have a few members cruising Baghdad's greenzone in a Bushmaster

Cheers...:D

Read that VSB2 has all the editing tools now, hopefully that means arma's will follow soon.

Hmmm.....I have been training on this US Army simulator that the Army developed....I have to say it looks so much smoother than this, though its not for public release.... ;) so join the US Army.... HA HA HA HA

The one thing I have to say about the screen shots....the parade field (the crossed swords) were so much better in real life if the air didn't include 7.62 lead shot....

Not only that....the price of VBS1 and 2.... :( screw that. I been to shitty combat situations in real life....so why do it on a game....I will stick to Arma with its fake SLA army or whatever....

I don't need to go to Iraq or Afganistan on a video game :P

Do it or sit down and take off your wings....HALO
