I want to know if its possible to create a Modfolder for the steam version. What I think it might be a problem is that when you use a modfolder you have to put -mod=@ModFolder in the shortcut's address. But the steam games start through STEAM and have something like this in the shortcut address: E:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 7.... Can someone who bought the STEAM version confirm that there are no problems if you add something to the default address(eg. E:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 7... -mod=@ModFolder).
Any help will be appreciated.

Funny that I will answer my own question. :D So I've taken the risk and bought the steam version and I can proudly say that there aren't any problems whatsoever. You can add the code(-mod=...) to the steam shortcut address and this won't cause any problems launching the game. :yes

Thank you for posting the result of your test here, more people will benefit from this.
I expected there to be no issues (as you read in the other topic) but with no experience with Steam i can never give a conclusive answer ;)

Don't u have an ArmA2 folder?

If u have it then place the missions inside the Missions or MPMissions folders, (SP or MP) and if u don't have those folders inside the ArmA2 create them.

I feel dumb now. I just didnt look hard enough for it . It was installed in my Users folder and I was looking in my program files . Thanks for the help .

[edit 1]
I retract my last reply because it looks like the arma 2 folder under Users is just saved games. Still have not been able to locate actual Arma 2 program folder. Shortcut target uses Steam.exe to start game.

[edit 2]
OK , I finally figured it out and I wanted to post this to hopefully help anyone else who has same question. For the Steam version the Arma 2 folders are going to be found in the Steam folder. To get to it you will open Steam , then open SteamApps , and finally open folder labeled Common. Arma 2 folder should be there and open that up and you will find addons folder, missions folder etc....

I have found that you do not have to mess with the steam shortcut itself. you can right click the game in you steam "my games" list and go to properties... there is a button in the properties window to "set launch options". upon clicking the launch options button it will open a blank text box and this is where you set the launch parameters such as "-nosplash" or "-mod=blah".

this way you don't have to use the -applaunch parameter and your steam.exe can be left alone.

as mentioned before the mp missions go in their normal place it's just that arma2 is burried in the steam folder (c:/programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/arma2)

Hi everyone,

I need serious help, been trying for a week whenever i get free time. The problem is i installed ace the 1st time when i bought ARMA 2 on steam and it worked fine. But after that it started playing up after a certain ACE update on sixupdater, so i uninstalled everything and installed it again. And this time when i try to install ace mod through sixupdater, i get a message saying No valid Arma installation folder found...please abort!

I have installed ARMA 2 patch 1.05
I have tried changing the paths in the configurations/settings on sixupdater to my installation folder i.e. C/programs/steam/steam apps/common/arma 2
I have searched nearly all forums with this particular problem, but had no result

I have wasted alot of my spare time trying to fix this problem and so i came here as a last resort.
Please someone help me.

Please do not post your topic in multiple topics. Your other topic has been deleted.

As this is an ACE2 related installing issue you should ask this in the ACE2 topic which you can find here:
http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=8943

I have no idea about your issue, but read through that topic, maybe update the six updater. Please continue or report in the above linked topic.
Thanks :)

Thanks yeah i think ive got it. Im using the "set launch options" in steam to add the mod so i dont have to use the steam.exe shortcut. One question though, can i string several mods together on the same line, like this for example? -mod=@Blah -mod=@Blah -mod=@Blah

No, it should be:

-mod=@mod1;@mod2;@mod3

It's explained in the FAQ posted by Fox.
