FPS Helper

3321-fpshelper12.jpg

This addon is a small config designed to increase the visual performance of ArmA II. It does so by removing and reducing the quality of various aspects of the game. The addon is designed for those who have troubles running the game with good performance or so that other settings my be pushed higher. It only works on Utes and Chernarus. Note that this is still in a beta phase, future version is impending.
Features:
RC1b
- Lower (smaller) grass
- Less dust produced from vehicles on land
- "removed" animations from grass
- Wildlife removed from Chenarus and Utes
- Grass rendering altered
- Grass clusters are less dense

v1.0b
- Lowered density of grass clusters
- Changed grass rendering details

v1.0:
- Glossiness removed from water and other surfaces.

v1.1:
- Removed some blurs
- Removed some UV sources

v1.2
- Ground textures lower, removed mid range texture (modification seems effective)
Plans/untested:
- Adjusting irradience (glossiness) of water and glass
- Removing the animations from trees and bushes
- Look at shaders
- Look at texture loading priorities
- Spread grass out to avoid odd patches
- User options to change settings
- Binarize and sign
Issues:
- More visible to AI (untested)
- Does not work properly with SAP clutter, unless in this order -mod=@FPShelper;@SAP (not recommended to run both)

FPS Helper

Appreciate any help, suggestions and feedback.

Updated.

v1.0:
- Glossiness removed from water and other surfaces.

The newer version mainly increases the performance around water, to do this it has removed the glowing/reflecting water effects. I was in a rush to release this final version, as I am away from ArmA II this weekend. I didn't have time to test it properly or make any more improvements. So let me know if there are any bgs found.

Some bushes make the FPS really drop down while you look at them through a scope, just like the good old Arma when it was first released.
Do you think you can add the fix which was applied for that with Arma (it was lowplants right) to this ArmA2 FPS helper as well?

I'm not sure about this. I have to look into this, the work is extensive and I'm not sure how this works. I think this is something to think about more once BI decide to release the Mlods. At the moment I think I've done everything that I know about.

If anyone is interested, I can confirm that plants are still affecting how the AI reacts. I was crouched in an alley and an enemy about 120m down the alley saw me and shot 6 rounds at me; hitting me 1 time, once I went into prone position it stopped for a few seconds which gave me enough time to acquire the target, aim and fire. Killed that one enemy and another comes around the corner about 80m in front of me and while still in prone position he didn’t see me and started running towards me 1 shot killed him and another enemy did the same thing, this repeated about 3 more times.

Needless to say this still has been a fantastic mod recommendation with my computer specs, thank you again Deadeyez.
