Well...yeah. But if the conflict is in Takistan, I dont think you'd find Russians there.

the game would be good set in afghanistan brits and americans with currently used vehicles, i know we have the avghani iraq maps for arma1 which is great ,but if it was like the current theatre of war we all see on tv news .with the new tweaks to the engine since arma1 it would be fantastic as well as new a enviroment for the retail game and campaign. i,ll buy regardless of setting, i wonder how long we will be waiting for the expansion till release ?

Pafetik Bazerka : BIS havn't made a fully playable game, like WTF?

Cant work out if ArmA forums survive on the whinning and whingeing or if they are alive because BIS actualy make good games.

Being a cynical critic alone isn't actualy helpfull, not particulary polite, and comes over as being ungratefull.

I for one am looking forward to the expansion, Placebo has already made clear that 1.04 is being worked on, and I'm satisfied that they may be able to include even more/better content again with the expansion.

As for coments like the one above from Micheal "nobody just sees this as a tactic to sway buyers from DR ? It seems plain as day to me". Well this is a free market / capitalist economy working here, you should EXPECT this sort of thing by now. It is more or less BIS's duty to do so until the next worthy milsim arives and they re-asses what they want to do.

Just hope for your sake that your not expecting too much from DR, because at the end of the day its just a game and well... thats it , its just a game.

Chill bro, Im just saying that the timing coincides perfectly with their compititions release, and I was offering up that as an obvious explanation for such an early expansion announcment.

As far as not expecting too much from DR. Well I am am expecting alot out of it. But in a different way than you are thinking. Its a new approach to a great genre. Im looking forward to playing it, and honestly mostly because I know it will actually run on my rig quite well, because I have Grid and Dirt on PC (same gfx engine) But, this is not about DR.

The fact that you and others can overlook the show stopping bugs in ARMA games is amazing. Though I cant say I havent had some great moments in the game, its just that more often than not, those moments are interupted by the incredibly bad bugs the game still has since ARMA 1. An expansion while very shiny and appetizing will run EXACTLY the same as ARMA II. So I am not all Bunnies and Rainbows over it.

Everyone quit argueing and get back to working on your missions and addons >_< Theres only like a hand full of Arma2 Units/Veh addons, and nothing for objects... difficult to work on a piece of art without the paint and canvas, although we do have the brush :-p

Attention:

I use a sickening amount of Emoticons... you have been warned

What's even more important - and everyone seems to forget about this:

Operation Arrowhead has been announced - read it from my (virtual) lips: a-n-n-o-u-n-c-e-d

and 75% of the community are on a rage as they would have said it will be released next week.

The only thing we know right now is that its a standalone expansion in which the ArmA2 addons can be used as well.
We also know that its set in the fictional country of Takistan and that the US Army plays a role.
We seen two screenshots, one with an Apache and one with a woman in her burqa.
No release date, nothing. And wherever I look people are going nuts screaming and bitching about BIS not patching ArmA2 anymore, milking their customers and gawd knows what else... Geez the expansion has been announced - nothing else. Marketing tactics shortly before an important exhibition (gamescom).

Really some people are horribly overreacting here. And yes the announcement caught me by surprise too and at first I was like WTF.

Calm yourself down there :).
The main reason for this is that THE DEVS have said that any fixes to the Engine that are applied to the new expansion will be available for Arma2 owners for free after the release of the expansion and like you said this maybe 6 - 12 months away and nobody want to wai that long..

That maybe all well and good but people want BIS to fix the engine problems in the Arma2 exe now not wait for some other game to be developed first and then any fixes handed down .
Lets look at the other side , BIS will now release beta patches for ARMA2 , does this mean feedback from the patches will be applied to the Arma2 game and exe or wil lthey first be used to fix the expansion exe ?
now i dont see anything wrong with people wanting BIS to fix the Arma2 exe and not try to make another game first, seems logical that people would want that.?
whether you like it or not BIS PR have certainly created this situation and only BIS can be blamed , not there customers.

Maybe I missed it but who says BIS is actually developping this expansion? Was it said so, or did they hire an outside studio?
I remember QG was made by an outside studio right? So who says this is not the same here?

Good to see some continuity in series...whatever timeline BIS chooses.
Having said that, An announcement of a forthcoming title is one thing, splitting the devs billable hours between the two -considering both of their current states- is another.

IDEA Games and Bohemia Interactive have announced the development of ARMA II Operation Arrowhead; the standalone expansion pack to ARMA II.

I see it now, thanks for the headsup.
However in my honest opinion it leaves room for speculation and it would not suprise me :)

wow.. *sigh

i have to say i was like wtf.. so much i was thinking i read it was free... noob---> points at self

i wonder if BiS allows the fact that there is an entire generation of modders that have been waiting and the issues with the early versions of the game.. tools being released and an 'expansion' being 'announced'.. i can see how all the emotions would flare up..

i just don't see any more need for it... sad to say.. i keep showing up everyday... and take what i am given.

doing ma best

:2cheers
