OK, guys,

I know the roping doesn't work, but trust me on this one...

The new version is going to blow your socks off in how the fastroping functions, all of the bugs will be fixed, and you will have a helo (or five) that can fastrope with no external scripting in the mission editor, just drop the helo in and go. This has taken a lot of work but we are just a week to two weeks from a release. I have had to be really secretive about it because my addon isn't the only one that is going to have this stuff integrated into it.

Anyway, bear with me on this one, you won't be disappointed, it's on it's way, I promise.

Maybe it is an obvious and everyone knows it, but: in order to prevent my squad from dying i put an empty choper to the map and create a waypoint "get into the nearest" to only one pilot. Because he has no crew, no member of his crew can fastrope down. And the pilot should not pick them up later, killing with this half of my people. I was really happy when i concocted it(may be not the right word, i dont no language well enough:blush). The only problem still is: what should i type in order AI pilot use fastrope function (now i just swith on to the pilot, press drop rope, fast rope and then switch back to my unit)

ADuke, I just wanted to tell you that your Hawk capacity is way to small according to my sources. Isn't a chalk around 12 people? Your helo's carry 8 passengers, 2 gunners, and a pilot and copilot...

So, are you making a statement or asking a question?

In one sentence you say...

Black1ron:
I just wanted to tell you that your Hawk capacity is way to small

and in the next sentence you say...

Isn't a chalk around 12 people?

So, to answer your question....

The term "chalk" has no specific # of soldiers associated with it, it only refers to the loadout of an aircraft, be it a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft, it could be 2 guys, could be 8, could be 20, doesn't matter. When the "chalk" leaves the aircraft it is no longer a chalk but breaks off into squads or fireteams.

I made the capacity of my helos 8 men because given the animations I was working with, the positioning is as such so I didn't run into clipping issues but there are enough guys there to make a solid squad and not just 4 guys, but not quite 12.

My sources....

1. My uncle - TSGT, USAF Pararescue.
2. My friends - Currently enlisted 101st ID, 1st ID, and 2nd ID soldiers.
3. My colleagues (and friends) - Warrior Skills Trainers from US Army 7th Special Forces Group (20-30 year veterans).*

*These guys work exclusively with TF 160

Cheers,

-AD

P.S. UH60/MH60 aircraft don't have 2 gunners, they have a doorgunner, and a crew chief.

ADuke : P.S. UH60/MH60 aircraft don't have 2 gunners, they have a doorgunner, and a crew chief.
Doesn't that depend on how you define gunner? When in the air, he also functions as a gunner. Kinda like "every marine a rifleman" philosophy, no matter what you do, you're still a rifleman. Don't know if that's a bad example though.

Sorry if i ramble a lot. I just like to ramble. It makes me feel like people listen to me. People never listen to me :(

Well, as Riller said, a crew chief often functions as a gunner on the helicopter. At least, in my buddies' experiences they have.

I really don't have time to argue about this guys, I use this forum for bug reporting and legitimate issues relating to my helo pack. Feel free to create a forum post somewhere else and you can bash my helo pack all you want. The names of the gunner and crew chief positions in my helos will remain the same, "gunner" and "crew chief".

Please respect his wishes and discuss the matter elsewhere. Or create your own addon where things are the way you think they should be.

Drum roll please....

AD Helos with reworked Fastroping, version 1.0

ADuke's Helo pack v1.0

Changes:
1. Reworked Fastroping
2. Improved specular mapping

Credits:
1. DeanosBeano for the updated rope animations
2. Norrin for scripting

On Fastoping:

1. Make sure height is between 10 and 35 metres (approx 120 feet).

2. Reduce speed to less than 2 and more than -2 ie. it might help to engage the auto-hover function when doing this.

3. Then depending on whether you have either players or AI in the cargo the following will happen:

* If the cargo only contains AI units the player pilot will get the option to deploy fastropes
* Group leaders (player) should be able to deploy the rope for fastroping if they are in cargo space.
* Group leaders entering the aircraft will always override the pilots ability to deploy the rope.
* A group leader in a gunner seat will NOT be able to deploy the rope. He has to be in cargo space.
* Same applies for group members that choose a gunner seat instead of a cargo seat.

4. AI will automatically fastrope whereas players will get an option to descend ropes.

5. When the fast ropes are deployed the pilot gets an "abort fast rope" action in the action menu this will drop the rope and allow you to move off immediately - just be careful if you engage this action as anyone on the ropes will most likely fall to their death. If you do abort the ropes, still have cargo units aboard it is possible to fast rope the remaining units in a safer locale.

6. if an AI unit is piloting the chopper then it will automatically cut the ropes after a period of time so if you are given the choice to descend ropes don't muck around or you'll miss the chance.

Let me know if anyone finds any bugs and I will try to fix them as soon as possible.

Enjoy,

-AD

Thanks a lot, You`ve done really great job. Even I have everything working properly and nobody is being killed while descending:D Especially thanks for rope animation!
