I am just starting to learn how to create and edit my own missions. Is Armaholic large enough to meet all my needs in terms of finding everything I need to know to become a successful editor/mission creator? I need access to tutorials, and written, printable material for every thing to do with triggers, for example, for Arma2.

It's all here, you just need to grab the tutorials and stuff. And if there's any questions left there is still the mission editing forum.

Is it safe to assume, when it comes to creating and scripting files, that what applies to Arma will also apply to Arma2? Also, is there a comprehensive guide to editing to refer to rather than running around picking up bits and pieces all over the place?

Well most of the scripting that works for A1 will work also for A2.

There is an ArmA1 Editing guide available which teaches you the basics, again most of it will work in A2 as well.

For the rest it's "running around picking up bits and pieces all over the place", no one can serve you all answers (or even solutions) on a silver platter. Own initiative and playing around might take more time but you learn more from it than from other people solving the problems for you. ;)

In my opinion there's no question, Armaholic is THE place. Its simply put the best gaming community I've ever seen. The amount of skilled people exchanging information and mods here and on the BI forum is astonishing.

On the bits and pieces thing, I agree with W0lle, but one site thats helped me alot too, is the BI community WIKI.

Apart from that the OFPEC site and forum is also nice, and as mentioned above the BI forum is also a great source, obviously :)
