Ive just finished the first draught of the scripts for a mission I plan to create called Commander. This is my first proper attempt at scripting.

The mission is very basic at present, my aim is to get the scripts to a final state and then start working on the mission its self, possibly a campaign. I intend to use WARMOD to take advantage of the AI enhancing features however the mission will run on Vanilla Arma.

The scripts enable users to move other friendly squads around and receive basic reports back. When an enemy squad is spotted the commander is informed and there position is updated on the map.

Instructions:
-------------
Go to the map, click on the radio to select the squad and then either

Click : commands movement
Shift click: commands fast movement
Alt click: status report only, no movement.

You will receive a report back detailing the number of units alive and how many are injured. If the squad has been wiped out youll find out when you try to move them.

Feedback and opinions please:
----------------------------
This is my first scripts, I suspect their is a lot I could do more efficiently/ cleanly. I aim to keep the load the scripts create low to make large scale battles possible.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

PLEASE NOTE: when you load it up in the editor there is an error, however it all works fine. I think i made a mistake importing from the RTE.

Its very nice, very professional. :)

And it works. :P ^^

When starting it though or in the editor as you said it says something about a marker but that aside. I figured maybe from a marker or something from one of your mods. But that aside, it works nice and fine.

What you should add are 3 command or tactics.

ATTACK
DEFEND
PATROL, within a radius you can set or if possible and that is aiming for the best, UPS of course :D.

But very nice work, very nice.

You should take a look at these things, they may be of use very much.

COC Commander X, http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1976.
Strategymode, http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1606.

But so for this is exactly what was needed and useful.

Thumbs Up. :bigok :thumb :D

Thanks for the feedback!

Its a good idea to add those commands, im limited by the onmapclicksingle limits at the moment. Thinking of adding some kind of GUI by I have no idea where to start.

I’ll take a look at both of those mods.

You can just post your update here in this topic, don't open a new topic but just use this one to keep all info about your script in one topic. We will see it and update our news. I know we missed the release here at first but that hardly ever happens. And if it still happens just sent us a PM about it to rub our noses on it ;)

Keep up the good work.

Well I have an idea how to do it.

If you add 3 AddActions, ATTACK, DEFEND and PATROL to the commander. And a 4 to cancel if you already selected an command. And within the scripts make it so that if you click one and decide to select another that it will cancel the first script so it won't double click so to speak. And within the scripts just have it be the same as you used the first OnMapClick.

Or.

Do it like you did with holding down "shift" but than use 3 keys more each for one script.

That would be nice. :D

Not a bad idea. The one problem I can see (if I havent managed to get this wrong :) !!) is you cant activate the addaction whilst viewing the map, so the user would have to flip back and fourth.

A box like the VFAI control panel would be ideal. Would open on the radio trigger in the bottom right hand corner. The user could click on the map, or change any options before clicking on the map.

Mind you I have no idea if a menu like that can be overlaid on the map screen.

Well it is also done, kinda, in COC Commander X I posted. Did you check that yet btw?

I'll take a look at the "VFAI control panel".

If it doesn't work out however, I know of another way to do it.

Attach extra radio commands to each radio squad you select.

Like if you click radio squad 1, than another whole radio section opens up and you can select as much as 9 I think. This way you can browse through and select while on mapview.

I seen it work. :D
