Arma 3 - AEG - ArmA Electrical Grids
Loyalguard started working on his famous ArmA Electrical Grids Script Pack and Addon for Arma 3 and posted some early development screens and a video.
Quote Loyalguard :
As I hinted in a few other threads and continuing a tradition since A1, I am porting and enhancing my ArmA Electrical Grids (AEG) simulation to A3. I have basic functionality working on Stratis thanks to some amazing island analytic techniques pioneered by Wolffy.au. BUT, in the current Alpha (0.56) the ability to switch street lamps on and off is not yet implemented, so there is nothing tangible to release just yet. In the meantime, I have been focusing on making the simulation more efficient and including features not available in previous versions. What features you ask?
For each successive ArmA game release, I have tried to enhance the simulation. For A3 the big changes are going to be the addition of renewable power sources (solar, wind, and wave). So far in game in the Alpha we have all seen plenty of solar (photovoltaic) objects, Buildings with Photovoltaic (Solar) Panels on Rooftops as well as Photovoltaic Transformers.
Through screenshots and other hints online and in game (and in the real life islands that have inspired Altis and Stratis), I expect there to be wind and wave power-related objects as well. So, the challenge has been how to realistically add these to the simulation. So far I am quite please with the results. I have been able to "connect" solar panels on building rooftops to nearby photovoltaic transformers (in real life these would actually be a solar inverters/transformers) that in turn provide power (assuming it is not dark or too overcast!) to nearby street lamps and other objects too! What kind of objects? Well...
In the previous versions of the simulation (SEG (A1), CEG (A2), and AEG A2/OA) only street lamps were controlled by the grid. Ever since A1 and Sahrani, it has been requested and I have wanted to include lighthouses, airport runways, and other light sources. For A3, I have found a way to turn off lighthouses, runway edge lights, and airport VASI lights by damaging them so they are inoperational. There are some small unintended consequences (breaking glass sound in the lighthouse and puffs of smoke on runways), but none that spoil the overall effect.

It has been some weeks since we last run our weekly wip report but with the release of the Arma 3 Alpha our workload increased so much I simply choose to not write a weekly wip report. Arma 2 / Arma 3 - RKSL Studios: CVF Carrier (Queen Elizabeth class)
RKSL-Rock released a new wip update on the RKSL Studios, this time about the CVF Carrier he has been working on.
Quote RKSL-Rock :
We have a large ship assembly scrip working in game for some time now. Largely for static objects, but UNN and CBFASI did upgrade it to use the attachto command available in Arma 2 (The scripts were originally developed in the OFP era and refined in ArmA1 then largely forgotten. Or at least put on a back burner for a while.)
We resurrected them when IAP was conceived and I rolled out the CVF models too. They work quite well in ArmA2 and OA. At nearly 300m long and 70m wide its a big lump. Its all fully walkable, working lifts etc but the Ski-ramp has a tendency to damage planes at the moment. I'm hoping PhysX might help there.
I've mentioned the CVF carrier in earlier WIPs and with the release of ArmA3-Alpha I've been forced to re-evaluate model standards and textures. The OLD CVF model really doesn't cut it when you can swim around underneath and the detail is a bit sparse. And I've realised now that more pictures of the real carriers being built are available that my model isnt actually that accurate. It just needed some love. I've rebuild most of the hull and I'm just working on the Hanger deck.
I'm slowly working my way through that model unwrapping and texturing as I go. But its a big space, as you can see form the pics above. Thats 24 Typhoons in the hanger deck in that picture. With a bit of reshuffling 30 won't be too hard. Its going to be quite interesting filling the space properly.
Which brings me onto these, fire extinguishers. Storage Lockers etc. I've just spent the last two days texturing doors, cabinets and fire extinguishers. I have much more to do too.
ArmA 3 and beyond:
The current build is already working ingame. I've managed to get all the current features working properly and even the lifts seem to work OK with planes on them.
It looks like its all going to work... who knew!

Sav (aka SGT_SAVAGE) informed us the team published the WIP #7 in the BI forums.
Quote Sav :
Well Arma 3 is here and attention has shifted towards BIS's new addition to the arma series. The question is now been raised will Unsung be moving to arma 3 ?
The answer is YES.
But first we plan to finish off what we have been working on the last year and then move onto Arma 3 with a clean and stable release.
Therefore our next release 2.5 will be the final release for arma 2.
The last month has been a roller coaster for the team , there has been a few ups and downs that made us rethink our approach. However, the biggest up we had was Aplion from the Hellenic mod who has been so generous with his time and effort and has really helped out the unsung mod. A big thanks to you my friend

_william informed us he started working on the Foliage Camouflage System.
The Foliage Camouflage System (FolCamS) is a 'logic' module that attaches foliage to vehicles.
Quote _william :
Just like the WWII Wehrmacht and Cold War NATO forces did to camouflage their tanks, APCs and guns. I wanted to recreate this in Arma 2.
Out-of-the-box, FolCamS knows how to camouflage most vehicles from popular Arma2* WWII and Cold War mods, using a database of vehicle dimensions. And for vehicles classes not yet supported, mission creators can simply add (or change) vehicle data at mission start to have their mission's vehicles being camouflaged. (That's also how I create vehicle data for additional vehicles I want to support out of the box).
FolCamS can attach foliage to the hull and to the turret (memory points). It spawns a per-vehicle script to correctly align the turret-attached foliage. This script updates depending on the distance to the player, with an override for movie makers.
I've uploaded a movie so you can see the camouflage in motion (in P85 / CWR2:BAF / I44 and BAOR vehicles). As the movie shows, most of the work has been completed for single player missions.
I could use some help to make FolCamS work in multiplayer and to create better concealing more efficient foliage.
You can post your feedback in the Foliage Camouflage System wip thread.
ArmanIII informed us he is working on a new map of the Chernobyl Zone in the Ukraine for Arma 2: Combined Operations and has sent us the latest progress screens.

- Desert

Arma 2 - Signesberg
Bracer informed the community he started working on his next terrain.
Quote Bracer :
I'm working on a 10x10km terrain of a fictional area called Signesberg.
At the moment it contains 2 big landmasses and 1 island, but I might add more islands later on.
I'll start by presenting the island:
It's aproximatley 4x2 km big and it has 3 towns and a couple of small villages.
The large amount of forest makes it a popular place to go camping and alot of the upper class people from Emita city owns a summerhouse there.
Because of its large airfield it has important strategical value for the EDF (Emita Defense Force), and the base there played an important role during the civil war.
And now some photos of the island at an early stage, so expect higher detail and better ground textures.
