Northern Ireland Insurgents

Description:
This is an addon I was planning on releasing a month or so ago but never quite got around to it. The addon actually contains two .pbo's. One containing units for the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and the another contains units for the UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force). I didn't spend a massive amount of time working on this so it's not particuarly great quality. Most of the units (especially the IRA) are quite generic so they could probably pass for similar splinter groups or completely unconnected insurgent/paramilitaries. The units are all wearing unconventional clothing, so jeans/DPM jackets/woolly jumpers etc with balaclavas/masks to conceal identities, basically the stuff most of us have lying around in the wardrobe. For clothing, I've tried to distinguish a bit between the two factions even though they seemed to wear very similar clothes. From the pictures I saw, The UVF seemed to like black clothes with many wearing white belts, the IRA tended to wear the DPM jackets/trousers, green jumpers etc. I decided to look mostly at what was being worn from around the 1970's to 1990's. There was quite a lot of good material available and a lot of it fitted in nicely with what BI had already put in the game so not much need to go looking for new models.

As for weaponry, we're very fortunate because there's an abundance already available from the community so I was really spoilt for choice. I decided Massi's weapon pack had most of the stuff in so that's why that's a requirement. The IRA/UVF weaponry seemed to be a mixture of old British WW2/stolen army gear, the usual Russian stuff, with the occasional M16/Armalite as well. For those that don't know the story of the 'Troubles', basically the IRA were fighting the British Government with the aim of achieving a united Ireland, whilst the UVF wanted Northern Ireland to stay part of the United Kingdom so were also fighting the IRA. There's a lot more to it than that but I don't really want to go into too much detail, there's always wikipedia Obviously with both the UVF and the British government having similar desires, the UVF are under the independent side and the IRA are under Opfor. The UVF and IRA, especially in recent years have been treated pretty much the same (as terrorists) by the British government so I'll leave it up to the mission maker who's on who's side! So that's what I've got at the moment, in the future I'll probably tidy up some of the textures and maybe look at porting some stuff from Arma 2 that might be suitable. I'm not going to promise doing anything like a Northern Ireland map or a full blown module with RUC, British Army etc but I definitely wouldn't rule out expanding on this in the future!

Installation:
Extract into the ArmA 3 Directory, by default this is located in:
32-Bit - C:\Program Files\Steam/Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\
64-Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam/Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\
After extraction it should look like this:
Steam\Steamapps\Common\ArmA 3\@your_mod_folder_name\addons\

You can also use the "Arma 3 Alpha" folder in your "My Documents" folder. Your folder setup could than look like for example this:
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name1\addons\
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name2\addons\
mydocuments\Arma3 Alpha\@your_mod_folder_name2\addons\

When present place the "userconfig" folder into your game install folder, usually:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3".
You may already have "userconfig" folder from other addons and/or mods in which case it is safe to merge the contents from this archive.

You'll also need to add a Launch Parameter to Steam, in order to do so right-click on ArmA 3 Alpha and click Properties and then Set Launch Options. In the window that opens enter in -mod=@your_mod_folder_name
For using multiple mods you would then do so like this:
-mod=@mod_name;@mod_name2;@mod_name3;@mod_name4;@mod_name5

Note:
You can also use -nosplash to get rid of the splash art and intro videos.

And of course you can also enable and disable community made addons and mods through the in-game Options Expansions menu if you do not want to mess with startup parameters!

When the above information still does not provide you with enough to learn how to install custom addons and mods you can always ask in our Guide On Installing Mods.
