ArmA 2 is ArmA 1 with Head wobble and motion blur..."
That's simply not true. You would know after spending some time with it, not just trying the demo.
To all of you complaining about low fps on your "decent" gaming rigs: Did you really play around with the video settings in both ArmA 2 and on your graphics card?
In ArmA 2, did you put the 3D resolution on 100% and FSAA on High or Very High (3 or 4 in the config)? Did you put Object details on Low or Normal? Did you put Terrain detail on Low? (the last two options will get you higher fps with almost no negative visual impact)
And of course, disable the bloom and blur thingy.
Agreed, other games can run smoother with the same specs but are they as fun as ArmA 2...? :D
@TheVipersFang
Sorry about the bad link. Placebo has updated the link on the forum. You can find the download you need at the bottom of the first post here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74668
Hope this helps you out.
i have problems to with the graphics, i cant play the demo properly cuz i have to play at SUPER low settings :(
but its cuz i have a old pc (i have a pentium4) :blush
but i tink the AI realy had a lot of inprovments,
i did some test's and i was in a M1A1 and i had a hostile rifelman in front of me,
when he spotted me he started running for his life :D
and i did not see them walking in the middle of the road so much.
i spotted them alot in cover to!
overal im very satisfied with the demo, but i realy need a new pc for this game :)
ArmA 2 is ArmA 1 with Head wobble and motion blur...
I don't know what it is that is running jerkily: I suspect BIS will identify and fix it at some point in the future. My ArmA 2 was unplayable until I tinkered directly with my graphics card settings after disabling catalyst control centre. AMD Fusion has run even more miracles for my system and now I can run 'Harvest Red' with a good steady 40FPS with settings on normal and high and draw distance to 2000. I'm not going to reprint all my system spec, but it's very average. Kegetys' blur off still works wonders - much better to have postprocessing at high and Kegetys' than BIS 'no post processing' option. I find the performance of ArmA 2 strange, as these tweaks don't help other games nearly as much, and my Crysis still stutters a little, whereas ArmA 2 runs as smooth as silk now.
Granted, you shouldn't have to put in all this work to be able to play it properly, but I think most ArmA fans have the dedication and patience to sort out their system. A shame it could kill the interest of gamers new to the franchise.
I was right all along... ArmA2 is just a patch for ArmA1.
They double the height of the grass and blur everything. Like someone said above me, my PC can run Crysis on highest graphics settings flawlessly and I can run Arma1 with everything maxed out during the biggest battle without any problems at all, but this so called optomised sequel runs jerky. Almost 90% of the content appears to be ported directly from the first game. The AI still likes to walk down the middle of the road and has a terrible sense of direction.
MAN AT RIGHT FAR... when its a BMP to the left... LOL!
My honest over all opinion is that of disappointment.
Just tried the demo yesterday. It's a very generous demo with a lot of things to do... too bad it runs like crap on my comp. I can run Crysis on highest with minor lagg... but this shit I can't even run on lowest without getting 10FPS.
Looks like I'm sticking to ArmA
I must have the slowest internet connection on the planet :( 4 hours later and I still have a gig to go. Sigh........why can't fun things always be fun?
That link is no help at all because it is a page can not be found thing :con

From Placebo:
BTW a couple of people so far have had a launch error with the demo: "Demo failed to launch, X3DAudio1_6.dll was not found" You need to make sure you have the latest Directx 9 Redistributable installed: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
i will upload this file ASAP to my units website, will provide link when up.
I spend almost 2 hours downloading this thing, then I install it fine and when I go to run it the damn thing says that it failed because X3DAudio1_6.dll is missing try reinstalling. I uninstall then reinstall 3 times in a row with the same error. Looks like I will have to download it again. Has anyone had this issue?
question is, any way to put up a arma 2 server via the demo?
Great, I got the game ordered and ready to be picked up. It's in stock until the 27th, then they're giving it away to someone else, so this demo is just what I need to see if I can run this on the comp :P
if anyone finds new links, please notify here
