Arma 2 will be released in a few days in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and in just a few weeks in the rest of Europe.
This means we will expand the website to be able to cover 2 games, Armed Assault and Arma 2.
In the background we have been working on a full site upgrade which will give us as the website staff as well as the users a lot of new possibilities for both security and usability. Our new CMS will be like Arma, the possibilities will be endless!

We would like to hear from our users what they would like to see added and/or changed on our website.
At the moment we can not give you a full list with planned improvements and changes as we have no idea if all will make it into the first release.
However, we ask you to submit all your suggestions and feedback in this topic

Some planned changes:
    - Subforums (will be usefull covering different games)
    - Completely new textboxer (where you type the text before posting it)
    - Tag clouds
    - New pagination
    - New rating system
    - New RSS feeds
    - Implementation of AJAX in certain parts of the website
    - Editable comments (for users as well as mods)
    - Improved search engine
    - Increased speed and security
    - Lots, and lots more
Please do keep in mind although we work hard to get things ready we can not promise it will all be finsihed before the 505 Arma 2 release.
The website as it is now will be able to support both games without a problem as well so overlapping time will be no problem!

So, I have already contacted some people asking them if they would like to preview our new website however I think more people would be welcome so here goes........

Who wants to preview the new Armaholic website, browse through it and leave us feedback about it. We are looking for people who want to tell us what they think of it, and if they think things can be done better.
I am pretty confident we already did a very nice job with it but "more better" is even better :D
When previewing it you will also have to understand not 100% of the website is working like it should. This is cause we are moving to a new CMS for which I need to make a lot of DB changes, some of those DB changes take hours and so for a test site its a waist of time to apply those, however we did our best to always make sure its at least clear how the new part will look! So only apply when you accept that.

Please note only people active within this community for some time can apply (shall we say at least 6 months), and you need to have an account on armaholic (for proper acces rights).
I do reserve the right to deny your offer to test of course, but thats nothing personal :)

When interested please sent me a PM!

@already informed testers, expect a PM this week for acces details probably saturday, maybe sooner. So make sure to check Armaholic.com.
All new people will be informed next week I expect.
Staff will probably get acces this evening when I have time to set acces rights. :)

Thanks! :D

May I suggest you to mention the ArmA II community issue tracker
in your new about beta patches.

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7171

[quote=The changelog for the patch seems not to have been updated yet
so we can't write what the changes in this version are][/quote]

Also you can read about the changes at the CIT:
http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cis/wiki/1_06_BETA

If you decide to mention it, please link to the wiki main page of it:
http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cis/wiki

Thanks for the update!

That said it would be better to highlight the CIT instead of dev heaven.

So instead of:
The ArmA II community issue tracker can be found on the dev-heaven.net website.

I'd suggest:
You can check the beta patch changes, report issues and vote tickets at the ArmA II community issue tracker (CIT).

I have a suggestion for your new site.
Can you please make community news (leagues, new sites, etc) a separate new category that can be filtered on the main site.

To mention stuff like: ARMACast
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=10424

While the rotation banner is also a good thing, people seem to easily miss it
and as important is that up until now these are not part of your RSS feed.

Thanks for the consideration :yes

Nope sorry, making that kind of news available in the normal news will be a thing I have to deny. Let me explain why :)

1 - We get asked almost daily to post news about websites, if we post news of site X we should also post the news of site Y and Z and E and B and G..........etc. This would mean the news we post, which already moves pretty quick, gets replaced more often and with daily news about other peoples sites/leagues etc we will flood the news, not to mention our workload.

2 - We fully understand the work people put into their sites and leagues etc......we maintain a site ourselves and as such are aware of that.
This is why we came up with the community news feature. It gives people the possibility to keep their news on the homepage for a long time, not just a few hours (which is acually an advantage over normal news if you ask me).
We have announced the possibility about the community news feature many times, even contacted people about it. Only a few care to refresh it every now and than or to even just submit an item for it.......... If people don't use it............well.......so be it, we will keep offering it for those who want to use it.

If anyone has an idea how things could be added/changed to make things work better all feedback is welcome. Just remember, most people make suggestions increasing our workload and after that sit back and relax (not talking about you kju, you have done enough for the community :D ).......so any such suggestions will probably be not done.

About RSS, I will add it to the new website, should be easy to implement there. That way the community news still shows in an RSS feed ;)

I can't follow your point. :blush

Do you mean it flood the main news section?
It should not be part of that. Only in the community news section.
