i was wondering if someone could make a video on how to download and install mods, addons and everything else for idiots like me

Its just a mater of downloading the files to your computer, unpacking them so you get the .pbo files or exe files or whatever, and than you install or place them in your Arma/addons folder.

For example lets say we wanted to download a Marine add-on.

Lets call it - marine1.pbo

once it's downloaded you find the add-on folder

THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT ON WINDOWS VISTA

Computer - Local Disk - Program Files - Bohemia Interactive - ArmA - add-ons

you then move it to a seperate place, For example

Documents - Downloads

and then move it in to the add-ons folder

That is a very Simple Download, if you don't download it that way look in the read me manual, But sometimes there isn't a read me which is very annoying.

I don't understand how people can be so useless with computers..

on vista, the Add-on folder is located at :-

Computer - Local Disk - Program Files - Bohemia Interactive - ArmA - add-ons

if the add-on you have just downloaded has any PBO files, you extract the PBO files to the add-ons folder (using Win Rar)

But always read the readme incase you have to do it a different way..

-I wasn't talking to you guys above, just for anyone else if they have a simple problem, or who are new to the whole PBO business-

-also, if anyone has a problem which they REALLY don't understand, post what it is you are downloading and what your problem is, But only ask me if you have Vista as I don't know squat about XP-

Please, please, please never put anything in the default "AddOns" folder. While this is listed as the "Option #1" in the Armaholic FAQ How To Install AddOns never do that. Never. Never. Never. :no

Always use Option #2. Learn how folder structures and Windows shortcuts work. But more importantly, learn how to modify your ArmA client using mods and addons WITHOUT potentially screwing up the base install of the game (which is what Option #1 can possibly lead to).

Computer -> Local Disk -> Program Files -> Atari -> Arma -> @FolderYouMake -> AddOns -> (*.pbo files go here)

Then for your shortcut:

"C:\program files\atari\arma.exe" -mod=@FolderYouMake -nosplash

well actually ive managed to get some to work, when i click to download an ddon, some of them say it cant find the file, and these never work when i put them in my addon folder (yeah thats right, i use my addon folder, live with it!) but some other addons, download as a zip folder, and work fine when i put them in the addon folder, but it only seems to be pretty basic addons i can get wrkin, e.g reskinned units and tanks, i cant download new vehicles and the such

There are some files here that are not transferring properly. When you try to download it you get a string of gibberish instead of the file itself. If you're just right clicking and using Save Link As that might be what's causing you problems.

Can you give us specific examples of AddOns that you're trying that aren't working so that we can give you specific instructions on getting that one installed?

I had that problem on FireFox but not on Internet Explorer, but it is fixed now. If you are running firefox 2, go to the mozilla website and download firefox 3. That should sort your issues.

mathers, you need to download winrar or 7zip to extract files properly. http://rarlab.net

right thanks both, icant give you an exact addon, as theres so mmuch to choose from, xD, but ill download that stuff from rarlab 2moro, and ill see if it works anybetter.

oh and im using internet explorer, not what you were using, i could try it through AOL, but this site isnt AOL friendly, for e.g. it wont let me log on when i use AOL!

Anyway, I get that 'can't find file' problem all the time, On firefox and IE.

UN-soldiers, vehicles, irqi republican guard, iraqi t-72, iraqi police ( 3 officers ) all worked fine ) other mods havent, i ain tried them all yet but this will give an impression on what will work

Never use winrar XD 7-zip is better and more reliable easier interface too :P

Ok just to answer ur questions in general maybe make it easier for you lol. (I doubt it)

1. Make a folder in C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA (It should be like that anyway) called really whatever but for example @mods.
2.Inside this folder (@mods) make another folder called addons( This is your basic mod folder :P)
3. Download ur mods unzip them if ya want and put inside this folder
4.(Optional) Use Yoma's Addon Syncroneiser for an eaiser way to run mods and dowload from (SOME) servers like {GOL} clan's
5.If not you will have to right click on ur Game icon on desktop :P and edit the properties.
6.Where it says target is where you modify how to use the addon folder it should look like this "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\ArmA\arma.exe" if you want to add ur mod folder add this to the front of it :P (-mod=;@mods And with any luck you should have a working modfolder adn all ur Addons and mods will work XD .

to late i used winrar, but it sais its only a 40day trail, and i cba paying for it over the internet, dont know how much of my problem you read, but its not a problem of the addons not workin, its the fact that there was no zip folder for me to open, it just downloaded a plain file that wouldnt open an stuff, when i put that in addons it didnt work, but it alll workds now, and when winrar is past its 40day trial, ill download another 40day trial, and if it wont let me ill use my other internet adress to download the 40day trial again :D and i hope this isnt seen as piracy becausse its really not.
