The infantry design looks pretty decent, I look forward to seeing how it comes out when it has some textures on it :)

That certainly is a unique looking Land Rover design, where did you find it? I've never seen any like that in ADF service before. Do you have a photo that it was based on?

@TheVipersFang: I did some research and came up with this design. As far as I know the ADF doesn't use it but it is very possible they acquired some from the Brits. I wouldn't know anything about that though seeing as I am roughly 9000 AIR Miles from you guys over in Oz.

Land Rover WMIK, 40mm GMG & GPMG

What the WMIK does have is a pair of weapon mounts for firepower overmatch. The main mount can take a heavy machine gun for accurate ranged fire, or the 40mm grenade machine guns that have been in demand for their devastating area effects, or even a Javelin missile for use as a scouting mechanism and ultra-accurate long range shot. There’s also a lighter 7.62mm machine gun mount next to the “shotgun” front seat.
The “infantry enhancement” effect is similar to adding one of the Royal Marines’ popular BvS-10 Viking tracked vehicles, but with an adjusted set of pluses and minuses. Advantages include:

* Higher top speed
* Better all-round visibility
* Air portability via helicopters smaller than a CH-47 Chinook
* Lower costs

Drawbacks include:

* Cannot traverse some Afghan terrain that would be accessible to BVS10s
* Less armor protection in all dimensions, verging on none
* Less versatility in terms of possible battlefield roles

@Darkhorse,
I know of that variant in the photo you linked to there, those are almost identical to the one in use with the ADF who have been trying to copy the methods of the British forces for many years. I still have a photo of the me sitting in one way back when I was in the service. I was actually asking about the Land Rover types that Emery showed a few WIP pictures of in his last update. Slightly off topic, I am glad that the ADF is moving away from the Land Rover in favour of the newer and better Nary SOV (Jackal in 4x4 and 6x6 variants) and several variants of the G-Wagon as well as the trusty Bushmaster and its new and up coming variants, (admittedly you could not pay me to man one of the top guns in one of those things after a rolling incident that claimed the life of a mate of mine some years ago). I have several photos of fairly recent ASF/SOCOMD Land Rovers in Afghanistan if you guys want them just to have a look at, I don't mind sharing things like that to help the community.

Vehicles are nice and all, but when are we going to see some smallarms? ArmA2 needs more of that! Especially as it has around half a dozen new weapon animations that may be more useful then people realise.

hey viper, the variant Ermy posted wips of is a variant of a SASR LRPV 4x4. can be seen here on the far left

personaly i dislike the G-wagon (but big thumbs up for the jackal, however arnt we still up in the air for that one?) mainly becuase of the bad news i hear from the dutch over in afghanistan who are using them over there, apparently onces armed and geared up they have shit all power, making them bog easy and just unreliable.

and as for the firearms, well all i can say is that they are coming... lol, VEEEEEERY slowly, ive never worked on weapons b4 with arma1/2 so very much a learning experience for me, but i have most of the models on my HDD, but yer they are coming along slowly, but its a bit hard with really only me and ermy working on things, and right now i have my hands full with the units and ermy with the landrovers.

Interesting, I learned something new yay! Seriously though, that is the first that I have seen of that variant of Land Rover in ADF service. As for the Nary/Jackal, the ADF recently took its first delivery of them. I saw them myself recently and they are also pictured in a certain prominent magazine (officially it was decided in 2006 and as of May 18 2009 at Lancelin WA Cambell barracks they got a pile of 4x4 and 6x6 variants in brown on brown camo). I would not take information from the Dutch military too seriously, no offence intended but in my experience they do not have the most efficient tactics. The British love the Jackal though. As for the survivability issue, well there are NO light wheeled vehicles that can win a fight with a big IED :( I will never forget that day I learned that lesson first hand... *ahem* Go the Nary SOV!

Keep working on it guys, progress is always good.

The one in the top pic's a British Jackal and the bottom one belongs to Danish SF but yea, the Nary is the same sort of vehicle (Supacat HMT 400). The 6*6 version is called the HMT 600 (or Coyote in the UK).

Good work on the SRV and LRPV fellas, and those new unit models on the last page. Look forwards to some diggers in ArmA 2.

@ Emery,
The Jackal in Australian service is being called the Nary SOV (Special Operations Vehicle) and as far as I know they have only 8 of them at the moment but more are on the way. The name Nary comes from being named after a SASR WO2 David Nary who was killed in a 'training' incident in the MEAO (Middle Eastern Aera of Operations) back in 2005. The current versions in use by SOCOMD (Aussie Version of Special Operations COManD) are the HMT Jackal 2 4x4 and 6x6 Supacat HMT Coyote TSV (Tactical Support Vehicle). There was one of those made for ArmA1 by one of the UK mod teams, you could ask them if they are willing to share what they have.

G-Wagon for the win :D

ok small update. this is the latest, and hopefully the last tweak to the DPCU colours... i think ive got them pretty close, or as close as i can get with the arma2 engine, as it handles some colours weirdly... also its not ment to look like a BRAND new set of cams, but instead some well worn in cams :), also still have to add some more dirt and details as bit to clean for me atm :P, also u can see that ive added the two front pockets and the rank slide on the front. in the future i wish to have actual ranks on the rank slide depending on their rank in the editor. but that can come later.

anyway here are the pics.

also you can see the new knife on the side of the webbing there. missing textures atm but.

Cheers
Rhodesy

Hey guys everything is looking nice, cant wait 'till it's released, KUTGW!
I wonder if you had considered making a digger in ceremonials and slouch hat, that could be used as a guard etc.? would be a nice touch...
