Hey guys, I was wondering what tool do you use for re-skinning of units to make new units?

I've had a look around but I'm not sure what tools I need! :O_o

BIS Forums

1) Depbo characters.pbo - Data folder inside that has textures.
2) You need to make a new folder somewhere
3) Copy the p3d of the unit, and any textures you want to change into this folder
4) Use texview to open the textures then save them with .tga extension
5)Open the tga file in a graphics editor - edit away
6) Resave as tga or jpg with the same file name
7) Open the saved file in texview and save as paa
8) You need a config for the unit your retexturing, you will need to find one somewhere. Make a new classname etc so it doesnt conflict with old ones.
9) You need to open the p3d model in a hex editor and in the ASCII string you need to change the texture paths from ca\characters\data\texture_name.paa to yourfolder\data\texture_name.paa - IMPORTANT - The texture path MUST be the same lenth as the original else you will get out of memory error later
10) Once that is done save the p3d
11) Use a pbo tool to pbo your folder.
12) Copy the pbo to your addons folder
13) Start ArmA + Prey it works

Here are some free tools i have that could help someone if they don't have other expensive programs:
    - Notepad ++ --> text editor with option to edit HEX.
    - The GIMP --> software for tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

And the ArmA tools:
    - Arma Tools --> contains cpbo.exe for pbo/unpbo files.
    - TexView 2 --> texture viewer and conversion tool for Bohemia Interactive's game engines.
