Welcome Bacon!
Glad you chose ArmA!
A few guidelines that will help you not get in trouble here are
- Do not double post unless someone hasn't responded in 24 hours
- Do not insult others (obvious)
- Search using the Search Tool before starting a topic.

About the videos on youtube, don't listen to those BF2 fanatics. They have never played ArmA and think BF is the best game ever(and they are most likely 11 year olds)
If you have any questions feel free to ask me or anyone else here! :)

Thanks for the welcome and tips enad. :) Only one question so far - what's double posting? Is that like bumping your own thread? Or starting up two identical thread topics? Maybe something entirely different?

Agreed re: youtube. After I dug in and played ArmA for myself I just had to shrug and laugh and figured: to each their own. The game impressed me, regardless of what I'd just been reading!

Thanks again.

A second time right after that.

But yes. It is pretty much bumping a thread.

Anyways, I have a question, how well do you run ArmA? What graphics card do you have? Maybe you could post some screenshots. :)

Heres two of mine(I like to show them off even though they aren't that good)

I'm sorry to say I don't have any screenshots yet I could show you (once I get done with my QG campaigns, I'll probably start taking some eye candy shots when I experiment with the dynamic campaign addons :D), but thanks for posting yours. Looks like you run ArmA well, the shots look great! As for your question: I run ArmA at 1680x1050x32 with max visual settings except for visibility/draw distance. Which I keep around 1500 meters or so for really smooth gameplay. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, but even with that GPU, turning my draw distance up all the way grinds the game to a halt in most situations, hehe.

Right now I play with all settings Very high and around 3000 view distance and get 25-30 FPS in the woods and 60 in the desert. I run an 8800 GTS 512mb.(Love it!)
BUT! I'm getting a new monitor soon with a max resolution of 1920 X 1200. Woo! I cant wait.:D
My screenshots don't look as good as in-game because of the massive quality decrease. :(
I cant wait for some shots of yours. You have a very nice card!

Great news on the monitor. Damn, that'll be one delicious setup! :D What do you use to take screenshots in ArmA? Print Screen then paste? (I'm not even sure if ArmA has its own screenshot ability, just haven't bothered looking yet)

I use FRAPS for recording video in various games, and it has a built in screenshot feature with a few different options for filetype to save to (BMP, JPG, PNG, TGA), so I normally just use that to capture my screenies since those different filetypes offer a different level of quality. Either way, I usually end up taking my shots into photoshop and using it to butcher my stuff one way or another to get it the way I want it to look. lol.

Thanks for the compliment on the card. It's still a baby. Maybe a month old now. I finally upgraded after having plugged along in a 7000 series that just could not handle max settings in any of my games. It was like a whole new experience once I got the 9800! I've never-ever been able to play a game with max settings before, since this was my first GPU upgrade on any machine I've owned.

I have a Flickr account I use for various stuff, so once I start to collect some pics from ArmA I'll definitely find that screenshot thread I've seen here and post some!
