So I was playing the game recently and i noticed all the cool features in ace that allow you to swap your gear such as glasses, backpacks, earplugs, gas masks etc and i thought "wouldnt it be awesome if you could take a model ingame with no helmet and pick out which helmet you could use, or which hydration pack would best suit my task ahead" (purely show as the hydration packs have no sway in the game although it would be good if thirst could be implemented too), i have heard that the AAW mod has something similar but i didnt want to use the aussie gear so i decided to go ahead and "try" and create my own.

I know my previous mods are at a standstill right now but i need some inspiration and, well basically, practice in order to finish those so i thought i would give this a go!

i have only just started modelling the gear but here is what i have so far!

(one helmet but hey its a start lol)

WoW .. its looking really good mate, just a question... would it have an animation or whatever
so if you were to use the goggles they would be on face and not still on the helmet? lol...

I also take it this is ready for release soon? as its looking great now for release 8-)

I am still a long way from release, I am going to change up the helmets textures and gear, maybe add the snake skin pattern to a couple of them , I am hoping for about 5 different helmets on release aswell as the Hawg hydration pack and a few different rucks including a reworked Alice pack as I feel the one on ace right now looks a little weird. I will be creating these items in several camouflage patterns aswell as in coyote, od and ranger green. As far as the animation of the goggles I don't think that is possible although it would be awesome if it could be done. I will probably be asking the aaw team how to go about implementing these features into an ammo crate as I have very limited confit experience. That is where I lose patience with my models, I have about 10 finished models sitting on my hd that I have nearly given up on due to config frustration. Including my US pilots but they also have a few assignment problems and lod errors. I will be updating when I have news which should be soon!

This is sort of similar to a feature in the Deset Mercs. & Black Ops Units.

In the addon they have 1 unit for each sub-faction without headgear, in the glasses section in the profile area is a selection of headgear... It includes items like a (black) BDU Cap, U.S. Army Beret, U.S. Army Special Forces Beret, Helmet (BDU & uncovered), and a gas mask.

The helmets look awesome, keep it up!

Do you plan on incorporating this with your U.S. Army models (A soldier without headgear)?

You should contact axffox requesting he does something similar, you two seem to be friends.

would be cool if you could go a step further and even look at the vest loadouts. for example, you put 4x2mag pouches on your vest, and you can hold 8 mags. you add grenade pouches and you can carry nades etc. so you would actually need to fit your vest to carry your gear, and on top, watch the weight cause your gonna be heavy as hell. im not sure if arma is even capable of doing this but i seen the guys from ace or acre do something like it. you picked up a radio, and bam, you had a radio on the side of your guy attached to the vest. would be awesome if this was possible, would take realism to another level.

will it show the goggles your wearing on your screen? or is it just purely decoration that only others can see on you?

so i have pretty much done with the modelling part of the MICH now so i have decided to move on to the next project till i can get some help with the configs etc

Here is the Camelbak Hawg Hydration System (and yes the Rangers do use these, a lot) these are in the initial stages of dev (i have the first lod made and all textures are on the model, although i am going to do some tweaking and add dirt etc)
i am thinking of adding some items in the molle suck as caribiners, glow lights, scissors etc.....

go easy on the critisisms as i mentioned, early stages.

looks good, question though. have you put more thought into it as far as what type of equipment you will have, understand so far you are planning helmets and hydration packs, possibly some small stuff too. anything else that could be done? maybe patches or pouches, or knee pads elbow pads stuff like that?

I'm not familiar with how this works, or how you plan on implementing it but I'd like to put some options out there to broaden the spectrum.

Assuming your a making an attempt for players to customize their character

  • You could possibly add more 'glasses' slots into the character personalization feature, maybe add a Helmet slot, Backpack slot, Gear slot (For vest load out)

  • You could add 1 'glasses' slot as Equipment Set-up and use a Soldier with nothing on his IOTV or MTV (Equipment Set-up determines the Soldiers overall gear layout)

  • You could have a Soldier with nothing on his rig (similar to above) but instead of using the main menu to set him up, have an ammo crate that adds gear to the Soldier (similar to the back pack system having certain gear set-ups could add more Gear Slots)

Added 1 Minute Later

Last one seems best IMO
