Hi guys
I have Arma 2 Reinforcements which is a standalone version....has the BAF and the PMC and it tells me its OA (lite).
No probs with the install but it doesnt appear to have the chernarus map, any ideas on how/where i can download it?
CAn anyone confirm that the "Reinforcements" isnt supposed to have the chernarus map?
(and i am not asking for the file i just find it odd that this standalone version doesnt contain such an important map).
Cheers

Chernarus is part of Arma 2, you do not have Arma 2. You bought Arma 2 OA (Lite) with BAF + PMC.
Download and install Arma 2: Free from here:
- Arma 2: Free
Arma2: Free is a free version of Arma 2 which has all the contents of the original game except the campaign and it has low-res textures. If you do not want low-res textures (believe me its ugly), buy Arma 2 from Sprocket for example:
- Buy Arma 2

You can combine Arma 2: Free with your Arma 2: Reinforcements to create Arma 2: Combined Operations (Lite) and be able to use any custom content released for Arma 2 and/or Arma 2: OA.
How to merge Arma 2: Free with arma 2: Reinforcements:
- OA + Arma 2 Free - For Combined Ops Lite

Please note the above guide is no longer needed really. If you install Arma 2: Free in a seperate folder than where your Arma 2: Reinforcements is installed just apply patch 1.60 and it will detect both games and ask you (I think) wether you wish to merge them.

thanks foxhound.

thanks!

Added 4 minutes later:

cant see how the two are combined because the guide is in the official BI Forums and for some funny reaason, my IP is banned from accessing that.

I think you should apply the patch again and if it does not work first install Arma 2: Free, patch it to version 1.11, than install Arma 2: RFT and apply patch 1.60.
The link I posted above how to merge Arma 2: Free does not point at the BI forums but our own.

thanks Foxhound for the heads up. i got mixed up there a little.

--oh can i do this instead...with RFT already installed and patched to 1.6, i'll install arma2free, patch it to 1.11, and then run RFT patch 1.6...?

just finished downloading Arma2Free...will do as you say this evening and see what happens. I've been itching to try out Chernarus...getting burnt up here in Takistan and Zargabad...gotta get my complexion back. :-)

Added 48 minutes later:

oh and i saw this method also in the link above...will this work also?

"No, you do not have to reinstall.
You can just install A2: free and than add this to yor shortcut:
"-mod=c:\location\of\ArmA 2 Free;..."

NOTE: You need provide the full link to the ArmA 2 Free folder.
NOTE: You need to enclose the parameter in quotes, if it contains spaces in the path."

Yes, that should work however not everyone gets it to work (don't ask me who is to blame for that ;-) ).
It is of course worth a try, so just see if it works and if not reinstall.

installing arma 2 free, then patching it 1.11, and then repatching rft with 1.6...it did not ask me to merge the two.

so i used the parameter method...in the RFT shortcut...i typed in "-mod=c:\arma2free location...;..."

then the RFT launched...i can see there in the expansions that arma2free is loaded...but my other addons are nowhere to be found...also, in the editor...i didn't see chernarus or other maps (utes?)...and there are no signs of the merge...

what happened?

Added 50 seconds later:

im not sure if i were successful or not. :-)

Added 11 hours 24 minutes later:

i did the reinstall route...

installed Arma 2 Free...patched 1.11...then RFT...then patched 1.6... the patch didn't ask me if i wanted to merge the two games...hmm...

this doesnt seem to work on me.

Added 18 minutes later:

DONE!!!

i now have Combined Ops Lite!!!

i hit the jackpot with this parameter "-mod=c:Location of Arma 2 Free;expansion"

thanks Lord FH!

Glad to read you got it working now. Enjoy the game to the fullest and I hope you will soon figure out spending like 10 - 15 euros more to get the Arma 2 full version (with the campaign and high-res textures) is worth it :-)

Sure would have been nice if Bohemia mentioned that "Reinforcements" only has a "LITE" version of "Arrowhead".
"Three years after the conflict in Chernarus" it says on the DVD case....hmm, Reinforcements doesnt really seem like a "Standalone Expansion" in my opinion.
Foxhound, i do appreciate your help and Armaholic is an amazing resource, i just now have that "ripped off" feeling from Bohemia.
To make matters worse i had already purchased Arrowhead but have misplaced the disc....
I guess i can be thankful that Arrowhead is pretty cheap now.

Reinforcements comes with OA, completely free since you pay for only the DLC (BAF + PMC) so how on earth can one feel ripped off? It is standalone! You do not need to buy OA at all cause RFT comes with OA "Lite" included.
In this case Lite means you do not get the SP campaigns and missions but you do get all the rest!

It seems you confuse Arma 2: Free with Arma 2: operation Arrowhead.
Or did you expect to get Arma 2 as well? Than why should they not include Armed Assault and maybe even Operation flashpoint.............

%)

Yes you are correct i missed the point.
Its not OA that has Chernarus map but Arma 2 original.
So i apologize to Bohemia for that point.
So now just to get the Chernarus map so i can join many of the MP servers i either have to purchase Arma 2 or get Arma 2 (free) and put up with low rez, if i have understood this correctly.
I'm not an Arma 2 expert like yourself or a software distributor, im just a consumer who still finds it odd that elements that are in the original game are not included in a subsequent "Standalone" version, but thats just my opinion. @}->--
RFT is not a standalone expansion of Armed Assault or Flashpoint so no, i did not expect elements of those games.

Yes, its free afterall so since it is free there must be something that gives you a little less than paying customers should have an that is in this case low res textures. If you want the full detail buy Arma 2?
Ever downloaded a demo? Ever saw a demo including all content the full game had? Arma 2: Free is nothing different than a demo, it is even more than that!! It offers you the full game to experience, completely free.

You can think it is weird as much as you want but in the end all you are complaining about is that you do not like the fact you did not get the content you did not pay for anyway.
Arma 2 is a game
Arma 2: OA is a game
Arma 2: RFT is a game ([PMC + BAF + OA Lite prived for free so you can use it standalone!)
if you want all other version you should not have bought Arma 2: RFT but you should have bought Arma 2: Combined Operations (Arma 2 + Arma 2: OA) and buy the seperate DLC (BAF + PMC) or bought Arma 2; RFT.

Right now you only bought BAF + PMC and only thanks to the kindness of bohemia interactive you also have OA (A lite version ) and Arma 2 (a lite version) completely for free. I paid around 100 euro for that same content, you paid how much? 15 euro?

Foxhound
Thankyou for the opportunity to exchange opinions.
As i have stated Armaholic and contributors/ administrators like yourself provide a fantasic resource.
In the end Bohemia has made this marketing decision as is their right.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree as to whether "Standalone Expansion" is misleading.
I think "Standalone Expansion" is at best an oxymoron and suggests that the purchaser is getting the original Arma 2 plus extra maps, units and missions.
Anyway, thanks again for your time. *BYE*

DayZ seems to have created more problems then solutions.... ;-)

# Jango : I think "Standalone Expansion" is at best an oxymoron and suggests that the purchaser is getting the original Arma 2 plus extra maps, units and missions.

ArmA II = Original Game
Operation Arrowhead = Standalone Expansoin (does not need ArmA II to run since it doesn't use any of the maps/units/weapons etc)
Reinforcements Standalone = British Armed Forces & Private Military Contractors DLC's in one easy bundle, includes light OA so you can play on the map takistan online. You get the maps Shapur and Proving Grounds with these two dlc's.

Not in one place is it stated you get ArmA 2 with any of these latter purchases, it's as simple as that. I think your a little stung since you bought the wrong game for the mod you want to play with.

Its like buying Battlefield 3 and expecting to get Battlefield 2 with it.....

# Jango : RFT is not a standalone expansion of Armed Assault or Flashpoint so no, i did not expect elements of those games.

Reinforcements is DLC solely made for Operation Arrowhead. It does however include woodland versions of the models if you so wish to use them on a more greener AO.
