Yeah, and Greece really needs to get with the program. Russia has been the bad guy in games and movies since there was such things as games and movies. I've never heard Russia complain.
I really hope it doesn't turn out this way, but part of my brain is thinking that they will hold them prisoner until they either change the location of the game, or cancel the game entirely. Again this is merely a thought. Hopefully Greece with send these guys on their merry way. This is really just a misunderstanding between local authorities and a few game devs.
Also, when I saw the first pics of Lemnos, I REALLY wanted to visit their the coming summer. BIS is doing a fine job in making the island look beautiful, and they shouldn't be punished for it.
I don't know if it's the island itself or Greece in general, that don't want Scenes of violence or war on there land, but just thought I'd quickly check - And some of these games use the setting of Greece or base themselves from it
Age of Empires · Age of Mythology · Battle of Olympus · God of War - Medal of Honor: Underground
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
Rise of the Argonauts
Rome: Total War: Alexander
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Command & Conquer (video game)
Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
300: March to Glory
ARMA 3 ---------------------------------> ohhh this is a problem is it?!
Axis & Allies (2004 video game)
Violence on the tv is good. Violence in videogames is bad...
Always need an excuse to fill their mouth with good words of "peace and creation" and stuff like that. (Not referring to Greeks but to the world in general. Just making it clear since too many times if you have different toughts from me you're called a racist.)
I gotta throw my two cents in I see nothing racial in that post. That's a bit out of line. Granted, nothing has been divulged as far as the circumstances surrounding the arrests, i.e. was it broad daylight or were they doing their own little Spec Ops mission at night(Which I highly doubt) But add the fact that Greece itself has been going through its share of problems as of late coupled with the date, I'm hoping its just a case of the Greeks overreacting. Actually, even that's a the wrong word, maybe more like overly cautious and hopefully they'll be out soon.
Besides, just exactly does Greece possess that would be so "Top Secret" to begin with? A new recipe for Pita bread?
wow, I feel so sorry for the guys who are being charged as "spies"
That charge could seriously ruin/damage their live's and their families live's!
Hope everything works out for the best and I hope the greek goverment grows up and get's with the program.
"bring the boy's back home"

Indeed. Actually back in the OFP days where they were the evil guys, the Russian community created an awesome campaign telling the story from their side - the result was one of the best user made campaigns back then. I doubt the Greeks will come up with anything close to that. They rather bitch and whine.
To make this clear: I have nothing against the Greek people, and especially not the Greek community - we're all 'in the same boat'. Seems more like the other way round.
I have no problem either with national pride, but the 'celebration' some people from that community have over this incident now is just retarted and baffles me.
Yes what evil spies they are, taking pictures of vegetation, landscape and buildings. Something every tourist does on vacation. Like said before: It's better to avoid Greek as a holiday destination if taking such photos can get you in jail.

If that were to be the case about it not being in the actual game, I'd say "Fine", get the guys out and six months down the road, make it an expansion pack. Or at the very least, a hidden "Bonus" mission.
I've been looking at the airfield via Google Earth while the pic is from 2006, the field seems far too small to be of any significant in importance. No hardened shelters or anything like that so if anything, perhaps there is a race issue involved, except on the Greek side. "A couple of Czechs taking pictures> They MUST be spies.

All war games, so I don't know the problem ^^
Of all of those games, how many were made or had some form of involvement by a former Eastern Block nation? Either that or they're afraid of their being some sort of spillover from the Syrian Crisis and Turkeys involvement in it.
Wow, too be honest, I think Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase made far better spies than these guts.

Yeah, I used to have that campaign. Red Star was the name I think and it came in a bonus pack of the original.

It's actually fun to watch the ignorance of the authorities. I mean, what better advertising could you get than have your island in a videogame? Is there a statistic figure how the tourism in the Usti-nad-Labem region developed since Arma2 have out? Has probably not gone down. Always when I drive or walk or fly through Chernarus I think I should go on holidays there. But some people just don't understand videogames. If in a few years someone walks through Myrina and says a bit too loud to his buddy, "man, do you know how many people I've killed exactly here in this street?" then he'll probably be arrested for mass murder, instead of the locals grinning about why he chose the island of Limnos for his holiday spending instead of the usual boring Antalya all-inclusive hotel.
But it's a pity that the wrong people have to suffer from this ignorance. I think this matter should really be made much more public, on the one hand it would promote the game (who says if it's real you can't use it as PR stunt?), and on the other hand and more importantly, international politic pressure might help the inmates.
Oh and in case they need a good laywer (I do think so), BI should sell a DLC with just a civilian in shorts wearing a T-shirt saying "free our people" for let's say 100 €.
@w0lle: Most of what you say is obviously correct, but you are not strenghening your position in the discussion whether you are racist or not by describing greek language as "garbage" as you did in the comment on the news: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=17606#comments Developing quite some anger is appropriate here, but it doesn't help at all if it is directed generally against everything that is greek. And I also can't support this "you are living from our money, so do want we want" attitude at all. Apart from being untrue and unfair and dumbly populistic, it's also just off topic here.
There are certainly enough arguments for a proper shitstorm against the idiots who jailed these BI guys, we don't need making inappropriate attacks.
Btw, I hope the two inmates don't try to make some joke by saying "we work for the Iranians and this island will be bombed to hell in some 20 years", security people just don't understand irony.

Both your posts edited and your bad language removed.
I suggest everyone stick to the topic and less of the bad language and stupid comments. Anymore and I will
just lock the thread and dish out some infractions.

What about making an Avaaz.com petiton ?
Someone could do it, maybe can help these 'spies'.
Certainly can't hurt, however I'm not familiar with that particular site/group. I now from experience that "Plain Jane" type petitions don't carry a lot of weight because they're easily manipulated by people making up names and signing multiple times. However, if that site has some safeguards in place to limit that, yeah, by all means, do it. Maybe even go so far as to having a small pop up window asking for their signature either when they visit a particular site or, right after logging in. One signed, the pop up is than disabled for that particular person/IP address. Something along those lines.

My apologies on quoting the pics. Other than a few posts about week or so ago, I haven't posted or even been around for that matter in over a year so I totally forgot.
