Jesus after reading through all these other reports... that is not only stupid, that is retarded!

But now I understand finally why all the people in Greece living from Tourists complain about less and less people are coming. That has nothing to do with the economical crisis - in Greece you can get in jail for even the smallest things.

Seriously I wouldn't live in such a restrictive country. That's damn close to a police state already. :(

My interpretation is that BI wants well thought ideas that will be presented and greenlighted by a lawyer or a Czech Goverment official, so more good is done than harm.
Exactly that came to my mind before. Whatever we would do, it must be approved by BI and even better by one of their lawyers.

# W0lle : No that I never said, actually if you read a post I made before then you would realize that I said that if they have broken a law and knew about it, they deserve punishment

If they have broken a law but didn't knew about it, then it would be enough to confiscate the equipment, expel them from Greece and charge them with some Euros penalty. But charging them for espionage is just idiotic.

All I say is:

1) With some common sense used, even the slowest attorney or judge should realize that these 2 guys are not spies.
2) If the Greece wouldn't treat anyone as possible spy or enemy, these 2 guys could be long time home
3) I (and not only I) will avoid Greece if taking photos of a road going to a base is a major crime and can get me in jail for months and years to come.

Tell me: If I arrive at Lemnos airport on my vacation and take some photos of, say the plane I arrived with, and in the background is one of your F-16s - am I still treated as a visiting guest or will I be arrested as a possible spy? And don't come with the law now, I don't know neither the German nor the Greece law. And I doubt that on arrival someone gives me the Greek law to read nor tells me that I must not take photos of military equipment, be it on purpose or by accident.
Sorry but after this incident and the planespotter one I learnt about, I will never ever set my feet on Greece ground. I hate jails as much as you do.
The problem is we don't know what they photographed and possibly it might never go public.
If they photographed some empty roads then I don't see any harm with releasing them with a slap in the arm.
Things considered harmful by my opinion: Zoomed details of military installations, troop movements, guard changes, faces of army personnel (big no no), stationed and movement of mobile arms, markings, any kind of time recording of movements, thermal imaging, etc. But I don't know what they got.

It would be helpful if we knew exactly what pictures were taken bu in absence of that information, here is a list of Hellenic Air Force Bases; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Hellenic_Air_Force_bases
I highlighted and copied "Andravida Air Base" and went into google Earth, sure enough, guess what I find? Greek Air Force Fighters, F-4's maybe, parked out in the open, outside of their HAC's.
Why don't we all become spies (Sarcasm) and send pictures, similar to this, to the Greece government?

EDIT- For anyone who does not "Get" what I am implying is a sad case of irony.

Ok, I hope my post(s) have not offended anyone ( :( ), because this is exactly what I wanted to convey.
If BIS attorneys deem it fit for a community petition I still feel there should be a coherrent community effort to provide such, and not some errand members doing it in their own behalf..

Plain and simple: Yes. And I think visiting Greece is now a big no for you.

And Google too because they assisted with spying not only on 3 Greece fighters but also the position of their hangars.

:-D

# Tony Grunt : The problem is we don't know what they photographed and possibly it might never go public.
Exactly.
If they photographed some empty roads then I don't see any harm with releasing them with a slap in the arm.
Not even that, photographing public roads, visible to anyone is no crime.

Things considered harmful by my opinion: Zoomed details of military installations, troop movements, guard changes, faces of army personnel (big no no), stationed and movement of mobile arms, markings, any kind of time recording of movements, thermal imaging, etc. But I don't know what they got.
Agreed 100%

No, why you should. The purpose of this thread is that we all share our ideas and opinions, no matter how different they may be. :)

Guilty as charged. *DRINK*

Personally, it would take me about 10 minutes to turn that photo into a postcard, head over to the post office, pay the delivery charge and mail it the courthouse where their case would be heard.

Just listing what we can present to Foxhound:
1.Arrests of drunk Britons.
2.Google Earth photos.
3.No more tourist money.
Did I miss anything?

See here Foxhound, we are making progress.

Lets not post pics of any material in this matter please!

hopefully they have changed stuff since then.

Lemnos:

I wonder how many years that guy was imprisoned for spying on their air defense. :-D

Nope those would be Vietnam era Phantoms. Either way, pretty antiquated.

Once again you are quoting pics after being told already. Tut Tut

Hey guys some new info on this Czech site
http://games.tiscali.cz/tema/na-vyvojare-army-3-byla-v-recku-uvalena-vazba-60691

I tried translate something
"there was a chance that the Greek prosecutor identified as unfounded allegations of police and both Czechs will be released before the end of the week. This, however, did not confirm, prosecutor ordered custody. The term of any court, it is still up in the air"

"guys with BI were on Limnos really on vacation, even with the travel agency."

Well Tony, if you're gonna quote me, please do it in the manner i provided.
1) Drunk Brits AND other odd arrests. 17,000 illegals arrested in a months time? JHC, even Mexicans don't get that kind of treatment here. However, the intent there is to see if there is a pattern developing within Greece.
2) Google Earth Photos- I highly doubt that any pictures these two took were anything that couldn't be taken from google Earth. Its called irony. Arrest people for taking pictures of roads, yet, leave your air force to sit open on the runways where anyone with a PC could potentially take a pic.
3) Money- The root of all evil right? EDIT So, if someone I know whose planning a honeymoon asks for my advice as to where to go. It sure won't be Greece at the present time. My apologies, no intention of offending any of our Greek members here.

No need to go for other bases, actually. Google maps let you see several jet fighters on the Lemnos Base.
Resolution's bad but you can clearly see F-4s and A-7s there. Seeing, with Google earth, how flat the area is, you can probably see them from the civil airport terminal.

Hell, five minutes on google, you have photos from almost every angle of the base, and even some guys that filmed it from the air.

Any Czech here that could do a proper translation?
Also google delivers various hits from Czech media but still the translation is lacking.
