I hope that the SANDF equipment will be realistic, by that I mean, poorly maintained, rusty and some vehicles inoperable due to lack of trained personnel.

Leave your political remarks out of your posts here on Armaholic! Text removed.

The SANDF is a joke like the rest of the current SA

I look forward to this mod so I can blow it all up

Keep up the good work

@ above
obviously someone here is Racist. sure im not of African orgin. But dude, if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all, you obviously miss the fact that arma 3 is set in 2035, things could have changed then, they could have hit a huge oil pocket and got rich. anyways im looking forward to seeing the turnout of this. and if it will be anything that will remind me of the Isla Duala troops.

Thanks Johnnie for taking the time to post here.

I believe you can set the initial damage to each unit at startup to simulate poor maintenance. The AI players also has a setting for skill...

I look forward to this mod so I can blow it all up
The SANDF will be implemented as a green faction, so you will be able to use them as an opposition force.

Keep up the good work
Thanks for the kind words.

Don't you just love ARMA? You can simulate any scenario, even the one described by you.

I honestly just got done saying the words that I was disappointed that there were not many, if any, mods coming out for ArmA 3 that I was truly and honestly excited about...until I saw THIS! I am very excited about this ambitious endeavor, you got quite a bit of Content if you want to cover all those bases that you have said and I am with you 100% on this. I was a security contractor in West Africa in 2011, and actually had the honor of working with former SADF soldiers and Rhodesian soldiers...who later became contractors for EO and Sandline. I am super into African military history, and love the equipment and weapons especially in the time period of tnhe 1960s-1980s. The more modern stuff is still cool, just does not have the same appeal to me as 'the good old days'.

Since I know what you are working on will be quite daunting, I would like to offer help testing, and doing research for you if you like for the earlier time periods. I used to collect uniforms and equipment of the RLI, SADF, and Transvall police, and I have some great resources (mostly veterans who took lots of pictures) as well as online and books. Just wanted to offer help considering I know you will have plates full for quite some time.

I also wanted to ask if you had any plans on making OpFor units like the SWAPOs? Or if you had any plans on making any other African nations as well, like Rhodesia, Sierra Leone (where I lived), Angola, or the Congo...specifically the time during the no. 5 and no. 6 Commando era with Mad Mike Hoare! I would love to help out with those projects as well.

Any plans for Islands also to support this? There is just NOT enough Africa out there for Islands, units...ect and there is SO MUCH fun to do with that continent...well by fun I mean war gaming not genocide...

Would be a lot of fun though hunting SWAPOs in a Rattel in Sektor 7!

Congrats on the progress and I will be following this like Christmas!

Hi AbshireJW

Great to see a fan. Agreed. Yes it's a lot of work. At the moment it's just me, but I'm hoping as the mod picks up steam I could get one or two more people to help me. On the other hand, even though it's just me I am sourcing models from other people. I already have the models for Ratel 90, Eland 90, Mirage F1, Alouette, Puma, Oryx, Rooivalk, Lynx, A400M, Gripen, A-Darter, RG-31, [Tiger, NH90, Mistral LHD, V22 Osprey, Rafale]

Initially I had no plans to do OPFOR, but the idea has started to grow on me. As you know I'm currently working on the A109LUH, I understand Nigeria is also using this. My next helo will be the Alouette. This was used by SADF, Angola and Rhodesia. So...

I am a very big fan of the Rhodesian Selous Scouts. I have many books on the topic. A bit before my time, but love it. This is something I am seriously interested in.

Are you aware of the BushWar mod? The page looks like it's dead, but the guys behind it are working on a ARMA3 version. The main guy tragically died in a motorcycle accident and their progress has slowed after that. Here is the facebook page for the new version. I have been trying desperately to get in contact with them to try and make sure we are not duplicating effort, but they just refuse to talk to me. I was hoping that between the two mods we could cover more, but...

Help testing: Thanks. I'll take you up on that. I don't have much ready at the moment but I have your name down as a tester. Send me a email to ARMSCor.Mod(a)gmail.com so I can keep tract of you.

Do you have any information about Rhodesian Alouette helicopters? I want to know about paint schemes, armaments, versions and particularly any differences from SAAF versions.

Islands: I currently have no plans for this. Again was hoping to leverage something from the BushWar mod, but if I get to that point and they haven't done anything then I will have to.

Sent you some emails, and some information on K Cars and G Cars! That MG151/20 is going to be pretty sweet in ArmA3 I do believe....

Been following your progress for a week or so now. I am very much looking forward to seeing the finished product. It's a slick little project you've got going here and sort of out of the norm for most faction mods. The helicopter looks awesome so far.

Howzit PetraCephas,

I for one am delighted to see someone with both the passion and ability to develop a South African Forces mod for ARMA III!

Whatever the current, real-world state of South Africa or it's military might be, there is no denying the ingenuity or quality of some of the weapons and equipment that the country has produced and it's going to be awesome putting them through their virtual paces! I can't wait to see your Rooivalk!

Incidentally, in case you hadn't noticed :) the "Marshall AMV", playable in the BETA, is a straight copy of the prototype Badger infantry combat vehicle (Patria AMV platform and Denel Land Systems 30mm turret) destined to replace the Ratel-20 as South Africa's frontline mechanised infantry vehicle.

Judging by your work thus far I'm sure you're pretty clued up on technical specs etc. but if there are any holes in your info, drop me a PM and I'll see where I can help.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

Talisman

Thanks, I'm working very hard on the ability side of things, but still have aways to go...

My mod is focused on the equipment side, trying to stay away from the politics side. Very sad to see a once great army in it's current state. I am working on the Rooivalk model, but using the A109 to learn. Every time I figure something out, I apply it to my Rooivalk. It's coming along very nicely.

Yes, I did notice. Thanks for confirming that. Not sure what to do here. South Africa will have 6 or more versions of the Badger. I also in future want to add the active defence system. All this means that I will have to do my own model of a model that is already in ARMA. Argh! That is a problem for later. I actually prefer the RG-41 so I will do that first.

Judging by your work thus far I'm sure you're pretty clued up on technical specs etc. but if there are any holes in your info, drop me a PM and I'll see where I can help.
Thanks for the offer. I am very interested in military equipment but I am far from knowing it all. I might just ask for your help.

Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words.
