Schmalfelden - Germany Map

Mod Info:
Nicholas Bell announced in the BI forums he is working on a new map for Arma.

A map based on the actual area around Schmalfelden, Germany located just west of Rothenburg o.d. Tauber and south of Wuerzburg where I was stationed with the US Army 1985-88.

Apart from my desire to fight on "real" terrain, I selected this area out of my map collection because it is great "tank country". Low rolling ridges with open farmland broken by forests. This area has very small farming communities scattered every few km's. Their small size should hopefully "help" the AI.

Sorry, no airfield. Too small to do much flying anyway, although I enough buzzing around in a helicopter.

The map is not an "island" so there will be the issue with distortion of the satellite image past the edge of the map. The map size is 5 km x 5 km.

Although it may appear to be "flat" when flying over it, the area is hardly so, and offers good hull-down positions for AFVs. The contours on this image are at 1 meter. The "mess" in center left is a quarry.

The road net is dense - typical of Germany. Orange lines are paved roads. I have "downgraded" most of the farm lanes to gravel or dirt. Actually most have light duty asphalt paving in Germany, but I thought it a bit "much", especially since the buildings provided in ArmA make everything have a Second World look about them - hardly prosperous enough to be paving farm lanes.

Germany rocks... atleast when it comes to interesting terrain.

As soon as this is released I need to go into 'negotiations' with Nicholas Bell. :D

This looks very nice, ive always missed not having a map like this one for arma with central/northern european countryside. I know from the BI forum that Nicholas Bell is a very skilled map maker, so i think this map will be perfect:)

Looks very good and I can't wait for an eraly release. This game is crying out for a modern reality based set-up, not some fictional island but a place loosly based on real life.

The screen shots do look awesome and I suspect there will be some great MP battles - especially if people like Theatre of War take it up and decide to stage a campaign there. Might be an idea to make a larger map for large weekly campaign battles.

After spending a good hour on it I truly can say this map rocks. There are some minor problems with buildings partially buried and the bright area north of Schmalfelden village is irritating me but overall Nicholas Bell did an awesome job here and paid a lot of attention to details.
Only thing that is missing are the typical village signs which he hopefully make it into the next version(s).

One of the addons that surely will stay in my addons folder.

I agree, It looks like it will become what the Leusderheide map was for me in OFP.

I love the chopped down wooden areas too, with roots and felled trees everywhere. reminds me of my old VBS1 map.

I havent had a chance to play test this (sick as hell) but I really think this is an excellent map judging from the screens and the info :)

Just want to give my thanks for this map. Truly awesome one! Tested to do a tank battle on those lovely plains and it rocked. I still have some lag when sniping and looking towards the forests but hey, its probably me that needs a new rig ;)

And oh yeah, i love those forests! Best ever ive seen. So nice to sneak around in there and take cover behind fallen trees.

Regards
Alex
