i now this isnt ex-mil but its still sort of classed as the milatary.
im in the air training corps and planes in arma are a bit cr*p on the handling side (but ive never flew a A-10 or a harrier) so i probably wrong.
but it is the best milatry sim ever (probably apart from vbs)
also aiming in games is never like it is in real life, you just click on people but in real theres breathing positon weather etc like in a game the weight of a weapon is not there etc

Former US Marine here. AV8B Harrier Airframes with Marine Attack Squadron VMA-311 in Yuma, Az. Several tours in Iraq, Asia, Australia as well as on board the USS Essex, USS Belleau Wood, and the USS Peleliu . Served for seven years. Was attached to the real 31stMEU while deployed to Japan, so it only made sense for me to join the 31stMEU Realism Unit. Now, as far as how Arma compares to my RL military experience...well, its relatively similar in my unit, we follow rank structure, utilize air and ground forces, etc.
Bye the way, the AV8 in game does not even come close to the real thing, but it is a game. Being that I was Enlisted, not an Officer I have never flown the AV8, but I do have 150 hours of real AV8 sim time, and do have my PPL so...no comparison.
We all know that this is just about as close to a military sim as you can get without spending an arm and a leg to get VBS2, so its pretty fun.
When I die, tell them to bury me upside down so the whole world can kiss my a$$!
Active duty USA 11c, just got done with my tour in Iraq. ArmA, of course being nothing like real life, I still think ranks up higher than pretty much most of the other games out there.
Hey guys, Active Air Force here. Lots of experience on the Enlisted side, and in the Operational Air Combat side. I would say the best thing about the game is that it allows for some semi realistic Comms. Almost enough to remind me of work. but overall the feel is still too jagged to really immerse yourself. It jsut needs some more player movement tweeks (praying OFP2 delivers, becuase ARMA2 should just be an ArmA patch).
But with that Im off to base for another shift.

Please pardon my comment here......but tome, there is NO such thing as an X-Military. And I hope I do not come over rudely here for it isn't meant to be. At the age of 62 I play ArmA 2 and I am retired USAF Military Police. You may be a FORMER Military person but there is no such thing as an X-Military. Whether you do 2 years or 30, the Military touches everyone differantly.
Thanks for starting this thread though. I found it immensily interesting at the amount of Military personel playing this game. And would like to invite any who are looking for a place to play to look in our forums (AdultGamersElite) and come play on our ArmA 2 server. If you check in on our forums first and let us know your desire, i.e. PvP or Coop, we can sometimes accomidate. Happy hunting.
