Exactly what the title says; Why the different Zipping programs???

Added 1 minute later:

Basically, I need two zipping programs to install mods. Why is that?

Added 26 minutes later:

To add to this, say I want to download Benny's warfare mod, so I download it, I go through the steps, but it doesn't show up in game. Why? Because I need a server key and it doesn't come with the download. Could this be because I have windows 10?

Added 27 minutes later:

Ok,Cool fixed one problem. Still stuck with the 2 zipping programs though.

What are you on about? there is no need to unzip it twice, you just unzip the file which comes either as a .rar or .zip unless its stated in the download page about it being a provided .exe which is rare, then all you do is unzip the downloaded file and add it to your mod structure like its detailed in every download page within Armaholic.

1 program should be enough to unzip everything. Winrar or 7-zip can unpack each other's file formats. Windows can handle zips by itself too.

Sometimes I like to think as I started the whole "earplugs" thing.

And what exactly is the problem with having two 'zipping programs' installed? Does it harm your computer in any way?

I have Winzip, Winrar and 7zip installed here, not a problem at all and like DarkXCess said, WinRAR or 7zip can handle all other formats as well.

But to answer your question: Every addon/mod/mission creator has its own 'taste' and is using his favorite tool to create the archive. And since they don't get paid for their work, the customer (aka you) has to take what he got for free.
Just use WinRAR and stop the whining mkay? :-)

Ok, when I downloaded the tracer mod, I need windowzip, but when I download cba I need 7 zip. I wanted to know why that is. That and I can't figure out windowzip. I never heard of WinRAR so I will be giving that a try. Thanks.

You can use 7z to open any archive but you can also use winrar to open any archive. I haven't used winzip in some time but I guess that one too is able to open any archive.

I don't really see the problem here, choose one program and be happy? You don't need them all, at all. :-)

I guess me computer isn't normal then. If I have just 7zip only, then it limits modding for me. So good sirs, there is very much a problem. I'll deal with it I guess. How does that sound? Good day sirs! Thanks for the help.

No way 7zip limits your "modding".

I have only 7zip on my computers at least since 2006.

Unlike many other programs this is free and does all the job for me.

The only tricky part is that once you have 7zip installed, you have to look for the launcher (7zip file manager) and do right-click and select open as admin.

Now you can go to Options and in the System Tab select all the file formats to be associated with 7zip. Apply and exit. Now 7zip should be your default program for opening any compressed file.

If you do not open the program as admin and you do this, the settings won't be saved so after you exit you will end that no file association was saved.

If unzipping a file with one of the most common tools around is a "limitation" to your modding, you're going to have huge problems to actually modding this game :-D
