So enemy footmobile fires with sniper rifle from side of a large hill/mountain, elevated area. Friendly AI immedeatly spot the soldier, and he is neutralized immedeatly. This is rarely the case though in real life.
There's a meme about US/coalittion forces in mountains of Afghanistan/other enviroments: "The're never gonna kill those mountains!"
It means that because insurgents typically are concealed when firing at western forces, the military will fire at the general direction(if they know it, they sometimes dont) and/or distance they *believe* the fire is coming from. There's a reason for this.
As American War of Afghanistan-veteran Dakota Meyer put it: "Men become like sharks in a firefight. [Paraphrase:] If you are unable to return fire at the enemy, they will begin circling around your position, building up confidence to overrun you"

Obviously friendly AI will not fire a concealed object, unless they're able to spot it, but how do you conceal a enemy AI in order to compicate the situation for the friendlys?

I dont freakin' get it.

Added 8 minutes later:

Upon reflecting my comments Ive understood that the enemy AI will attempt to hit BLUFOR (or whichever side) with precise fire, even risk exposing itself just to make a hit. So not how milsims should really work. Frustrating.

If putting AI aside, does Arma even offer a practical system for using cover/concealment, I mean if a enemy AI fires at you from inside a window inside a house, will it ever remain unsotted or will get spotted immedeatly? Who the heck would just fire off round after round completely disregardning if tey get spotted/hit. Just shoot me.

Conclusion: Arma 3 does not offer the attacker (lets say from a distance) to use terrain/objects as useful cover, as they at the same time make you open for taking hits. Maybe Ive made some big incorrect assumptions here.

Are you new to the ArmA games? lol... if so then "welcome to ArmA" this has been a problem known for a veeeeeeeeeery long time. Try some of the Ai mods, some of them do a little to fix it but still isn't perfect.

1st - Check The Rules! 2nd - Use The Search!

Resurrecting an old thread only to add some important info for those would
be visitors of the subject of AI function.

Back in May 2019 i had compiled a massive list which is the changelogs of the
developers of the AI aspects of the game, this changelog lists all the functions and features that
the AI can and are able to perform, from the description of the list:

Information listed here are from my own tests, as well as others, and among the many are from
the AI Discussion thread, and the Development Branch Captain's AI Log thread.
AI Facts & Myths Compilation List
https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/223493-ai-facts-myths-compilation-list/

So the list in general should give anyone having issues, not sure about something in relation to the AI (vanilla AI)
refer to my list and you should be able to get an idea of what the AI do based on what questions or troubles
you may be having with them. If you happen to have something you discovered about the AI that isn't on the list
then let me know in reply on that list and i will add it accordingly. Cheers!
